I'm reminded of what Lee Strobel concluded after his campaign to prove that God didn't exist.
Lee Strobel set out to debunk, one at a time, every evidence proposed by believers for why there is a God. He had some success in casting doubt on each individual claim of evidence for the existence of God.
But one day he woke up and said, "It shouldn't need to be this hard to disprove the existence of God. Look at all the effort I am expending overall, in order to defend and advance my campaign."
“I realized that if I were to embrace . . . naturalism I would have to believe that:
• Nothing produces everything
• Non-life produces life
• Randomness produces fine-tuning
• Chaos produces information
• Unconsciousness produces consciousness
• Non-reason produces reason”
When people expend great effort to defend a political figure, a political team, a political movement, or a political narrative, and need to shut their eyes to strong evidence that goes against that narrative, a person has reason to wonder why so much energy is needed to defend something that is unlikely or even absurd.

A wee little man can’t say, I’m sorry. A big man owns his mistakes and apologizes.
A wee little man trusts himself and his own discernment. A big man is humble enough to know that he needs the counsel and input of others.

And since when are they the censors? I think the First Amendment covers that sufficiently.
Seems wise advice
But until it is verified it’s not wise to spread it as if it is.

There's a huge gap between the above and the simple observation that terrorist states are notorious for using these tactics. It's been part and parcel of how Iran, Hezbollah, and Hamas have operated for a long time.Ernie wrote: ↑Thu Mar 05, 2026 9:25 pm When people expend great effort to defend a political figure, a political team, a political movement, or a political narrative, and need to shut their eyes to strong evidence that goes against that narrative, a person has reason to wonder why so much energy is needed to defend something that is unlikely or even absurd.
Ultimately, deciding to place a girls' school inside a military complex is not some kind of simple trick you can use to avoid any consequences for deciding to becoming a nuclear-armed terrorist state. The people at fault are the IRGC. They decided to engage in extreme belligerence and now have to face the consequences. And yes, that includes the consequences for doing their very best to try to attract weapons fire to harm children and civilians.

The U.S. doesn't have a history of trying to use schools, hospitals, etc as (a) launching sites for missiles, and (b) trying to draw attacks towards then for propaganda purposes.
Like it or not, the Iranian regime does.

Would you say the same thing if Biden or Obama were president? I have my doubts.Valerie wrote: ↑Thu Mar 05, 2026 9:38 pmYes it will.Judas Maccabeus wrote: ↑Thu Mar 05, 2026 9:15 pmHint: Our government will never verfy it, even if it is truly at fault. It can only be"win."

You are conflating the tactic of Hamas with the Iranian state. Can you give me an example of them doing this? I can’t find any.
We are not talking about Hamas or Hezboallah here.

I once read an argument that blamed the devastation of the US firebombing of Tokyo during World War II on the Japanese for using wood as a primary construction material. Japan made itself vulnerable, the argument goes, by building paper and wood houses that the US military knew would cause a firestorm when bombed with incendiary bombs. By that logic it was Japan’s fault that 80,000 - 100,000 civilians were killed one night during Operation Meetinghouse.
I also once had an argument with someone who defended the firebombing of Dresden because they had a rail yard and some manufacturing even Allied bombing focused on the city center.
It ceases to amaze me the lengths some people will go to justify the righteousness of their favored side’s ability to kill. Our side is fundamentally good and righteous. Their side is evil and cruel.
So now the argument is that Iran should somehow have known that the US was going to bomb a girl’s school located next to military base. Wow. That’s chilling.
The fact that justification exists does not make killing morally clean.
