2026 Minab school airstrike in Iran
Re: 2026 Minab school airstrike in Iran
Why is a "girls' school" located in a military complex in a former military building?

Why are we located in a disused Catholic Church? The building was on the market, was cheap, and met our needs. The military abandons a base and sells it off. School can get a good, solid building for their school on the cheap. I could, if I was so inclined, give a list of schools that are close to military bases, including the high school my wife graduated from. They are a dime a dozen in DC.
You unleash war, and what do you get? Death and destruction. Most of those killed will likly be uninvolved in the military.
That is why we disavow war and anything to do with it.

Apparently the perimeter of the military base was revised over the years to exclude the building recently used as a school, and they neglected to properly notify the US Department of War of the change.
Buildings on the adjacent base were destroyed as well, as shown in the CBC article. The "dud Iranian missile" theory fails to account for those, unless there were multiple duds that took the same trajectory, which seems very unlikely.

Might have been a good idea for them to do so.ohio jones wrote: ↑Thu Mar 05, 2026 3:28 pmApparently the perimeter of the military base was revised over the years to exclude the building recently used as a school, and they neglected to properly notify the US Department of War of the change.![]()
Terrorist groups like Hezbollah, Hamas, and so forth (all Iranian regime-sponsored) are notorious for using children, schools, hospitals, and so forth as "human shields" from which they then conduct military operations. In any case it is very hard to imagine why a good location for a girls' school is in the middle of a military naval complex right on a harbor.

From what I've seen it was just outside the edge, not "in the middle." Exaggerations do not help to bolster your case.JohnH wrote: ↑Thu Mar 05, 2026 4:01 pmMight have been a good idea for them to do so.ohio jones wrote: ↑Thu Mar 05, 2026 3:28 pmApparently the perimeter of the military base was revised over the years to exclude the building recently used as a school, and they neglected to properly notify the US Department of War of the change.![]()

I hope the US notified Russia, China, Canada, and all other potential belligerents when the military base near t1's house was decommissioned a few years back. Wouldn't want her to get taken out by a missile programmed with outdated info.

Locating a girls' school right next to a naval base (and I mean RIGHT next to it, as in, in the same complex, just one random building happens to be a "girls' school" now) seems like a pretty irresponsible thing to do. Particularly for a government whose general plan is "fire rockets at their neighbours and try to draw enemy fire to schools and hospitals".ohio jones wrote: ↑Thu Mar 05, 2026 4:16 pm From what I've seen it was just outside the edge, not "in the middle." Sorry, but this one is on the IRGC. They do this stuff on purpose.

So US bases with daycares, school and hospitals are of course different.
Might it be a protection mindset against those who don’t want school for girls? Might it be economics? It could of course be for future propaganda.

Ernie, that's not a reliable source. We don't know what happened, but the Iranian state media has every motivation to not tell the truth, and has a long history of doing so.
Yes. This regime has a long history of attacking their own people. I don't think it feels much different to a grieving family whether it was an Israeli or Iranian missile.
The Iranians have had trouble with missiles that peter out and just sink to the ground shortly after taking off. The U.S./Israel also have exactly zero motivation to attack a school, and lots of motivation not to.
Seems wise advice

^^It would be a shame if the White House press were limited to giving unwise advice.Valerie wrote: ↑Thu Mar 05, 2026 7:20 pmIt’s not that they are censoring but wait till it’s verified-Judas Maccabeus wrote: ↑Thu Mar 05, 2026 2:55 pmAnd since when are they the censors? reading this topic is nerve wracking. terrrrrible mistakes are made.
the area has lots of new civilian uses, including a daycare. some of the buildings are valuable, some worthless, due to age and, often, asbestos. the inheritance from the base closure was a huge undertaking for a small community.

i’m perfectly comfortable with an older, wiser, more docile Trump.

Hint: Our government will never verfy it, even if it is truly at fault.
