Indonesia is the largest Muslim-majority country in the world and its government is reasonably secular in which freedom of religion is protected.Josh wrote: ↑Sun Dec 19, 2021 6:46 pmCould you point out some majority-Muslim countries where this is the case?Ken wrote: ↑Sun Dec 19, 2021 4:47 pmThere is a difference between rule by clerics, as is the case in countries like Iran, Saudi Arabia, and now Afghanistan. And rule by ordinary secular people who are doctors, lawyers, businesspeople, etc. and just happen to be Muslim.gcdonner wrote: ↑Sun Dec 19, 2021 4:03 pm If the government is run by Muslims, then Sharia Law will be the norm. If you are to investigate Muslim countries where Sharia is the norm, the infrastructure looks much different than here. I ideas of potholes is not relevant or policing or even hospitals. As you move away from conservative, Judeo/Christian ethics, you also move away from a caring society, generally speaking.
All I can think of is Turkey, which is technically secular, but allows very little religious freedom for Christians.
In any event, we aren't talking about majority Muslim countries. We are talking about one small Detroit suburb of about 20,000 people that happens to have elected a city council is all Muslim. It actually looks like a very diverse and interesting place to live. Perhaps the Muslim candidates just happened to be the best ones.
