Entire Michigan city government is Muslim

Things that are not part of politics happening presently and how we approach or address it as Anabaptists.

If you are to investigate Muslim countries where Sharia is the norm, the infrastructure looks much different than here. I ideas of potholes is not relevant or policing or even hospitals. As you move away from conservative, Judeo/Christian ethics, you also move away from a caring society, generally speaking.
There is a difference between rule by clerics, as is the case in countries like Iran, Saudi Arabia, and now Afghanistan. And rule by ordinary secular people who are doctors, lawyers, businesspeople, etc. and just happen to be Muslim.
Could you point out some majority-Muslim countries where this is the case?

All I can think of is Turkey, which is technically secular, but allows very little religious freedom for Christians.
Indonesia is the largest Muslim-majority country in the world and its government is reasonably secular in which freedom of religion is protected.

In any event, we aren't talking about majority Muslim countries. We are talking about one small Detroit suburb of about 20,000 people that happens to have elected a city council is all Muslim. It actually looks like a very diverse and interesting place to live. Perhaps the Muslim candidates just happened to be the best ones.

Certainly. Socially, they know very well how to get along with you+me. It’s easy. We’re easy.
When they worship or vote, they choose what is familiar to them, what is bedrock in their experience, just like you+me.
It would be silly to expect any different.

Pew Research / “Most Muslims Want Democracy, Personal Freedoms, and Islam in Political Life”
https://www.pewresearch.org/global/2012 ... ical-life/
The above survey you pointed to is a 10-year old survey of attitudes in 7 Muslim countries: Lebanon, Turkey, Egypt, Tunisia, Jordan and Pakistan. In all of those countries, increasing democracy while retaining elements of Islam in political life is actually the liberal secular reformist position. In contrast to the more conservative position of letting Islamic clerics run things more autocratically without democracy as in say Saudi Arabia or Iran.

What are the attitudes of AMERICAN Muslims with respect to democracy and the role of religion in politics? That is the more relevant question.

Personally I'm no particular fan of Islam. I think it is a problematic religion for a whole lot of reasons. Unlike Western Europe, the Muslim world never went through any sort of enlightenment in which separate religious and secular spheres were formed. But I don't see any particular problem with American Muslims. To my knowledge they have never been any kind of problem in this country and most seem like loyal patriotic Americans. For example, can you point to any problems with terrorism or violence by American Muslims? We have lots of right wing and left wing political violence in this country. And we have had problems with foreign terrorists like the Bin Laden Al Qaeda attacks on 9-11. But not to my knowledge have we ever had issues or problems with American Muslims, who are the ones voting in Michigan.

Given the trends away from God in this country,
 how does the following possibilities favorably and unfavorably compare for us as a separated people in this country?
What changes might be in store for us decades down the road with these options?

- Muslim government (assuming for the next 40 years it is a moderate form of Islam.)
- Atheistic / LGBTQIA2+ (apparently letters were too confining, so they’re taking numbers and symbols now.) / Secular / Far left government
- Trump brand government (for sake of this thread, assume traditional conservatives is dead. Or if you prefer, RINOs.

 Specifically what I’m trying to capture, is the decline of the Moral Majority & evangelical power.
However you want to term that.)

The DOE is resolute against Christianity. Tolerant, even engaging, romantic, of all others.
Populations matter, too. Faiths+cultures that value and encourage traditional families will enjoy numbers.
The DOE discourages Christian families, remains mum about others. Gov policies have gutted traditional families on many levels.

This is a ripple effect of the 60’s when Christianity was thrown out for romanticized “anything else.”

What does this mean for conservative Anabaptists? Maybe not much.
i don’t know much about the MM or evangelical power. lots of churches have sold out to prevailing cultural/political bullies, so, what is there left to lose? you can’t lose something you don’t have.

For long-lived religions, 10 years is not long, at all.
Unlike the internet, the vacuous secular world, where yesterday’s tweet is ancient history.

It’s more likely it’s majority ethnic Muslim and most ethnic groups will vote for people of their own ethnic group.

I'm not in a panic, but she is an indication of your "moderate" Islam. I think you are not seeing the reality of what is happening. The Muslim's stated goal is takeover from within.

If Indonesia is your idea of a country demonstrating a commitment to freedom of religion then no, I don't think you have anything to worry about.

So nothing specific you can actually point to then?
