Move over, Marie Kondo. Step aside, hygge. There’s a new kind of minimalism on the block.
While Swedish Death Cleaning may sound like some kind of morbid crime scene cleanup, it’s actually a thoughtful and effective approach to decluttering.
What Is Swedish Death Cleaning?
Swedish death cleaning is a method of organizing and decluttering your home before you die to lessen the burden of your loved ones after you've passed. Usually older people or those battling a terminal illness partake in Swedish death cleaning.
Okay, so maybe it is a little morbid.
But Swedish Death Cleaning can actually provide some real benefits in the here and now, helping you decide what items are truly important and what you’d be willing to part with. Rather than a grim end-of-life task, think of it as a Scandinavian twist on the Konmari Method. The basics of a Swedish death cleaning checklist include the following:
First, sort throughout clothing.
Next, declutter items that occupy the most space.
Lastly, clean out your digital files. .. ..

Description:
When it comes to getting control of the stuff in our home, I find a few of the same myths spewed over and over again when I get comments from people or messages from followers. And many of these are decluttering and organizing lies I’ve thought or believed at one time myself, too. I'm breaking down the top decluttering lies you’re telling yourself that DEFINITELY aren’t true.

If that happened, I would put on my Moderator hat and say "Use "I" statements."
“I want you to do more chores around the house.”
OR .. “i want i to do more chores around the house.” (and, yes, i would like that.)
My current objective is to fill my waste bin weekly (typically, it’s 1/3 to 1/2 full - to skipping the week altogether).
3 weeks in a row - done! Full bins.
Our bins are GENEROUS compared to my family’s trash service near Seattle.
I make it a challenge to fit all OUR trash into the stingy space allowed there. i’ve done well!
i’m now looking at THE MOVE OUT method for decluttering. i doubt i’ll be able to do it. but the spirit is interested!
Stay Focused
When you're moving, there's a sense of urgency that keeps you motivated and helps you make quicker decisions about what to keep and what to toss. With that moving truck looming in the not-too-distant future, there isn't much time to deliberate.
Channeling a similar energy can power you through the decluttering process.
(But then take a deep breath and rejoice in the fact that you don't actually have to move at the moment.)
HOMES&GARDENS / Decluttering experts swear by the 'move out' method – I've tried it and it really works
'It enables you to distinguish what is essential from what's glorified clutter https://www.homesandgardens.com/solved/ ... ing-method
i’m still guilty of fake uncluttering.

ELI / ELIN LESSER wrote: I'm a minimalist in progress and recovering over-collector, & my channel focuses on simple living and finding momentum in life. I'm glad you've found this little community, where everyone is welcome
A bit more about me: I'm Elin. I share mostly tips, my own mistakes, and strategies to help you live with less, but my channel is about so much more than that -- it's about self-empowerment and creating a better life. My background is in psychology -- I have a Ph.D. -- so I use what I've learned to try to help others build confidence and a more balanced life.
I also share my own personal journey:
health struggles (I am an MS fighter!), fun travel adventures (recent trips include Iceland, Paris, and Denmark!), and personal challenges. I live with my husband, Andy, and my little dog, Ginger.
Thanks again for all the support and comments -- I learn so much from the people in this community, and I'm thankful to be a part of it.
