i liked his voice, too.

hindsight’s 20/20.
those years were a train wreck of fast+big changes, parents were as overwhelmed as their young ones.

i don’t think the impact of cheap+free bc pills (and other bc devices, abortions, all of it) can be overstated.

to repeat myself, i don’t believe, if it had been known how quickly bc pills would go from being BY PRESCRIPTION ONLY, TO MARRIED WOMEN ONLY, PAID OUT OF POCKET ONLY, to being available to all women, married or not, teens, and children, paid by taxpayer dollars, without parental notification, i don’t think the general population would have allowed them to be on the market, at all.
The underlined were all seriously taboo, unthinkable.

that is how radically changed the general mentality wrt the value of marriage, itself, was, in a short period of time.

it was a whirlwind of change in those years. parents were unprepared. no one was prepared.

aside from occasional discussion on this forum, i don’t recall the discussion ever appearing elsewhere.
i suspect this one thing contributed exponentially to all that followed. the big train wreck of those years.

abortions are now so normalized, they’re generally accepted as the norm, if not “most desirable” “healthcare”.
there are published children’s books in schools+libraries promoting abortions as great things.

if that’s where you are, bc pills (and abortion pills) would be akin to candy. euthanasia seems to be up next.

If only those early people being presented with the idea of bc pills could have foreseen what was about to happen.
i don’t believe they would have allowed it. No religion, no moral culture would have allowed it. imho

The things that quickly followed were universally taboo.

i’m perfectly comfortable with an older, wiser, more docile Trump.

A few years ago the people of Iran took to the streets protesting the government and were brutally suppressed. In recent weeks millions once again protested in the streets. 60,000 and counting were tortured and killed. If family wanted the bodies of their loved ones returned they had to pay a “bullet tax” of 1000 per bullet.
That pot has been boiling over for years.
In spite of the older women and men being paid to mourn the ayatollah as a martyr the millions who protested him will gladly replace him.

Whatever happens next the outcomes will be internally dealt with. I’m praying for those folks. And I’m very glad and thankful that I live in the USA surrounded by friends, family.

No, you don't.

Let's say a town's government finally gets fed up with a criminal boss and they arrest the criminal boss and prosecute him. Now there is a "power vacuum".

The people of that town are not "responsible" for that. The criminals are.

Let's use another analogy.

Some Anabaptist church has a wicked and cruel leader, who has several minions and underlings. A few members finally get fed up and report his crimes to the authorities, who do go ahead and arrest him. The government and those members have ZERO RESPONSIBILITY for the "power vacuum" created.

I guess I have often struggled to understand why it's considered manly and ethical to bomb and kill and maim thousands of soldiers (along with civilians as "collateral damage") but considered unsportsmanlike to directly target the top military brass and the commander in chief. If they gotta have war, why not let the aggrieved parties fight man-to-man instead of sacrificing the lives of the thousands of soldiers who have no real argument with the enemy other than that they happen to be under the wrong leader.

"Older men declare war. But it is youth that must fight and die." U.S. President Herbert Hoover

In the past there have been leaders who led their armies from the front. Alexander the Great, Julius Ceasar, Genghis Kahn, George Washington, George Patton. I hate war and I don't see any point in it. But I admire men who don't hide and put others at risk.

It is wrong for Hamas military people to hide in civilian areas. But somehow it is ok for leaders of modern countries to sit in comfortable rooms "watching a TV show" while innocents around the world get killed in collateral damage, as a result of these leader's choices. I guess they figure it is survival of the fittest?
We obviously understand the big picture.
For the record our military is volunteers who see their part as “servants” for others benefit, willing to lay down their own lives. Sound familiar?
Not really, other than having heard it from people not directly involved in war. For some reason I thought the goal in war was to make the enemy soldiers die for their country rather than laying down one's own life. Isn't that the whole purpose of using drones and missiles to do the killing from as far away as possible?

Are you saying that Israel and the US have jurisdiction over Iran? Is the US the world’s police force?

History shows that it’s easy to remove a tyrant from power. What’s hard is whatever comes next and I’m concerned that neither Trump nor the Israelis have thought through what’s next.
Why is it the responsibility of either?

Reminds me of Phil Och’s song “Cops of the World.”

The police don't have "jurisdiction" over internal church affairs. Yet sometimes the police will intervene and simply remove someone who was in leadership. Government isn't responsible for the church power vacuum that is created.

I have zero interest in the aphorisms of some guy who presided over a failed invasion and a failed war. There is no rule that if you take out a wicked, corrupt dictator you somehow are responsible for every thing that happens in a country.

I think this is an interesting analogy for you to make comparing the US to the police because you have stated many times over the years that the US isn’t the world’s police.

I don’t think this analogy works, but we’re starting to repeat ourselves and so I’m moving on from arguing over this analogy.

The US had a power vacuum during the early depression years. The result was FDR
