Agreed. However, engaging in hate and prejudice seems to be the common way in which people argue against immigrants.

Yet that doesn't mean everyone who is opposed to increasing levels of immigration means their reason is hate and prejudice.
It gets very tiresome that arguing for an immigration policy similar to Europe or Canada means I have to rebut a presumption that I'm full of "hate and prejudice".

I think this due to the brainwashing rhetoric of the far left. It is their only hope to win elections to paint the picture of prejudice & hate of immigrants when WE ARE FOR LEGAL ENTRY out of LOVE for ALL concerned. For the record, it’s a known fact that immigrants that entered legally feel the same way about it.JohnH wrote: ↑Fri Jan 30, 2026 11:04 amYet that doesn't mean everyone who is opposed to increasing levels of immigration means their reason is hate and prejudice.

Let's try to keep politics out of it, and people who aren't participating here on MN, and just speak with each other?Valerie wrote: ↑Fri Jan 30, 2026 11:11 am I think this due to the brainwashing rhetoric of the far left. I agree. I am not claiming that anyone here fits that description.

YES! The motive of LOVE must come first.
However, those who are running things are doing many things to hinder legal entry. Applying for asylum is legal, yet applicants are getting deported.
Can we stand together, increasing the quota for refugees and allowing people seeking asylum be in a place of safety?

Re: Refugees and Immigration: What does good look like?
Applying for asylum does not mean automatically being granted asylum, and does not grant a right to stay.
It should be rather obvious why this is, particularly when attorneys advise clients to apply for asylum even if they don't really have a case.
Why do we need to stand together to increase the amount coming in?Can we stand together, increasing the quota for refugees and allowing people seeking asylum be in a place of safety?
Would it not be better to focus more on those who are already here? America has a lot of problems with finding decent jobs and decent, affordable housing for the people already here.

I was responding to Valarie, who explained the motive well:
Why? Out of love.
Loving some people should not take away from loving other people.

I think we can look at this one post at a time. Some posts really do seem to promote very scary, very false stereotypes about refugees and immigrants. Most Germans or Canadians I know would find those posts objectionable. Most Germans or Canadians I know support their country's immigration policies.JohnH wrote: ↑Fri Jan 30, 2026 11:04 amYet that doesn't mean everyone who is opposed to increasing levels of immigration means their reason is hate and prejudice.

1. Are we discussing the topic? Good.
2. Are we going around and around in a fight? Let's stop doing that.
3. Is there some serious wrongdoing or relational injury? Let's address that, probably not in public and certainly not for show.
