I honestly just don’t understand why he’s relevant.
I mean… I have sympathy for his family that they had to see that… why in the world are we arguing over this man’s death so much? I didn’t even know who the guy was.

i’m not sure i’ve ever witnessed anything quite like the public response this week, positive and negative.
like you, i barely knew who he was.
having said that, i have faith there are lots of good young men who will step up, i don’t know who, when, or how.
let there be numbers! i want to believe there is growing interest in Jesus and Truth, and this will not end.
we don’t know details. we know the victory is His.
CK didn’t have the perfect message. Jesus does. let there be no confusion.
i think, and i hope, CK would agree.

Re: Saturday sabbath or Sunday-does it matter?
Hi John - there seems to be a need to continue the discussion, and I think it is easier to follow if the discussion is not spread over a handful of separate threads. Would it be OK for me to answer the following questions here?
I don't think that would prevent discussion of the Charlie Kirk shooting in other threads.ohio jones wrote: ↑Mon Sep 15, 2025 11:59 am When I read that thread, here's what I see (condensed):There were a couple other posts where that was not done, but note the time stamps above. It looked to me like he was already making some attempt to do what you were asking for, before you asked, and the reaction seemed not to recognize that. So the entire conflict seemed rather confusing to me as an observer.ken_sylvania wrote: ↑Mon Sep 08, 2025 8:40 pm In that context, were you meaning to say that the Sabbath was made for the Jews, not the Jews for the Sabbath? ... Did I misunderstand you?

1. Are we discussing the topic? Good.
2. Are we going around and around in a fight? Let's stop doing that.
3. Is there some serious wrongdoing or relational injury? Let's address that, probably not in public and certainly not for show.

Re: Charlie Kirk Shot
For a few years we lived in a nice condo with an HOA. A mixed population, quite a few retired CEOs, managers, etc.
Retired from their careers, they brought their management skills to the HOA. Lots of vigorous rules for others.
Quite a few homeowners sold and moved away, stating the ever increasing rules were not what they signed up for.
I was sad they moved. That’s a big decision to make.
HOAs get a lot of earned complaints.

Re: Bunny Trails
I'll put this here as it may be political and may not be. Some have said that the difference between George Floyd and Charlie Kirk is riots vs no riots. But there is a difference in the manner of killing. I abhor both deaths, both should never have occurred. One was killed execution style by a person with hate in their heart. The other was killed by police- either the one who actually caused his death or the ones standing by. There had to another way to subdue him without killing him, but I acknowledge I was not there. But that has a lot to do with the response following it. Many people were outraged that there was a death at the hands of the police- and I agree it is an almost impossible job to be a police officer today- and at first no punishment or reprimands to those involved vs looking for and arresting and action regarding the men involved in Floyd's death.
If the policemen had at least been reprimanded and it was acknowledged that they had gone a bit too far in subduing Floyd, maybe the resulting riots and other behavior would have been less or not at all. Haven't a clue but we have to acknowledge the manner of deaths was different.
As for Charlie Kirk and speaking about him- the thread should have probably been started in the political thread- his organization is a political organization, he was at the college to talk about politics, his organization and yes he spoke about the Lord but that was not the main thrust of his organization.
Also- It hasn't been all love from conservatives since his death. We have a president who has called for the leftists to pay. We have others in the White House doing the same- saying they are going after these organizations. One person, not the organizations, killed Charlie Kirk and to spout- let's get the leftists doesn't help the climate of what is happening and adds to the already great divisiveness of our nation. Instead of using this as a time to try to push healing - coming together as a nation to mourn, there is the spouting of angry language aimed at one side.
We have seen deaths of politicians on the left killed by conservatives and deaths of conservatives by left leaning folks. It's' not just one side or the other.
As believers, shouldn't we be first of all praying for all involved, including the young man who shot Charlie Kirk. Sometimes I feel like the church today- everywhere every flavor has begun to feel they know the way it should be and almost like they are telling God, you know you need to do it this way, that way- we are adding or subtracting to His Word and His way instead of looking up and letting Him lead. He may lead in ways we do not understand or like but God knows the end result.
I - personally- am praying for the Kirk family, the young man and his family, our nation, our leaders and most of all the church which has become as divided and sidetracked as this nation.
It makes me very sad.

Re: Menfolk: Your church's standards on facial hair?
Electric razors work pretty good, at least for me.
Modern military grooming standards really went into the shaved face and head for hygiene reasons especially in WWII tropic battle theaters. Lice and other bug nasties are especially bad there. This is according to my uncles who fought in the Pacific theater. The monsoons and humidity. The heat. The body fungi and parasites. They kept calamine powder in their kits and tried to keep their heads and face trimmed in the high and tight style.
These days only special forces are allowed beards especially if they’re in the Middle East and keeping a low profile.

While it was gracious of Bootstrap to ask permission, and perhaps it's better to keep the discussion between him and ken_sylvania elsewhere if it detracts from the main subject (I could split off their earlier posts), the thread is obviously not closed.
If you'd like, we could close it on Sundays, like Chick-Fil-A. Or maybe Saturdays, does it matter?

Re: Saturday sabbath or Sunday-does it matter?
As the OP I have closed it. Others have closed their threads and not had sarcasm leveled at them. This is not appropriate Christian communication. Enough is enough.ohio jones wrote: ↑Mon Sep 15, 2025 11:24 pm While it was gracious of Bootstrap to ask permission, and perhaps it's better to keep the discussion between him and ken_sylvania elsewhere if it detracts from the main subject (I could split off their earlier posts), the thread is obviously not closed.

AS THE OP, THIS PARTICULAR THREAD IS CLOSED. If the topic is still interesting, others can feel free to start their own.
