i was young, but remember the 60’s assassinations.mike wrote: ↑Wed Sep 10, 2025 5:17 pm In the 1960s there were multiple political assassinations in the US. Have there really been any since then? Charlie Kirk's killing, while obviously not that of a political leader, feels like something almost in the category of those kinds of events. We've had the attempts - Reagan and Trump. But nothing successful since then, till now, at least that I can think of.
These kinds of assassinations are nothing new in US history. If nothing else, it is amazing that there haven't been more attempts when you consider how controversial politicians and politically-related figures put on public events and speeches all the time.
There have been many-many plans and attempts since.
MOST “would-bes” and even up-close attempts survive to face trial. Ford and Reagan had close calls at close range.
Their would-bes enjoyed lengthy prison time.
If i recall, obama assassinated suspected would-bes, i recall a male suspect in Wisconsin, and Miriam Carey in D.C., without known plan or motive.
Comparing the varying circumstances and results has been puzzling to me.
i didn’t follow C Kirk at all, i knew of his name.
This is a horrifying tragic thing, i’m sorry young people have to be exposed to it. Ugly horrifying violence.
