Prayers needed temp?
Physical fitness.
Re: 2025 Re: Physical fitness.
i think i’m ok. prayers always appreciated!
it seems like yesterday when i started this topic. 2020. i don’t have the strength i did. i don’t like that.
i’ve been staying too quiet because of the heat.
sooo. i ventured onto FB Marketplace and found an exercise bike. it’s heavy.
i hurt myself some trying to unload it, my neighbors came to help. i didn’t realize i’d hurt (my ribs?) right away.
i don’t think it’s anything. except painful.
i’m giving it a few days. it might just be muscles.
so. i haven’t set the bike up yet.
i’m second-guessing myself.
my doctor was enthusiastic for me to begin. i intend to.
he probably didn’t intend for me to wrestle with it like i tried to.
i was told it weighed 100 pounds. it seemed every bit of 200!

Re: Physical fitness.
i first found one on Craiglist last winter, but didn’t receive a response. i let it go.
i rarely look at Craigslist. i don’t think i’ve ever used it. i’ve looked at it for different things.
my daughter has used FB Marketplace with good results. i never looked at it before this.
it worked out.
no pun intended. now i hope i do.

Re: Physical fitness.
^^2 weeks later .. ribs are good.
today, i tried the bike. wow.
as i wanted, i can feel “all different” muscles from walking.
i wish i’d gotten this 2 years ago, after having problems walking. to use different muscles.
If it’s not this one, it’s close. (i purchased for little second-hand.)
Schwinn
https://www.schwinnfitness.com/product/ ... 00718.html
i agree with reviews: the seat is not good!
replacements are available at reasonable costs. i’ll need a wrench.
i’m starting VERY slowly. Today, my goal is 2min, three times. The seat helps keep it short!
2min sounds awful short. It’s my starting place. i hope.
i’m thinking of making my next step 2min, each hour. Maybe by next week.
i set it up where i walk by no matter where i go.
With a good window view.
i’d like it to be easier to do than not.
maybe in front of the refrigerator.

It cost money to go out anywhere and do anything. You have to be physically able to get out as well. Thanks to the Lord, I'm able to move around again. I thank Gary K. and his congregation's laying on of hands that I can get around without oxygen anymore, I can walk through the grocery store without having to use one of the go-carts, and I'm stronger than I've been in 20 years. I've also lost over 150 lbs. Don't judge people because they might be partial or total shut-ins.
And believe me, the disputes on Mennonet are nothing to whats going on out on the worldly forums.
They're muderous, libelous, and quick to accuse you of anything if you disagree with their dogmas- political or otherwise. If I were guilty of even half the things they accuse me of, I would be under the jailhouse.
Mr Jim would sometimes remind how much better this forum is than in the world.
It’s been years but i remember being attacked pretty harshly (on a Catholic site) when i suggested pregnant women dress responsibly/modestly. It wasn’t more than i could handle, but, memorable. From what i notice, there’s no indication my suggestion was accepted.
pregnancy is an amazing experience. i think of it as a specially intimate time between husband and wife.

Re: Physical fitness.
Good for you!
I have had some health problems in the last year, and exercise has really helped me. It's been good for my body and good for my mood. I'm glad to see you doing this!

1. Are we discussing the topic? Good.
2. Are we going around and around in a fight? Let's stop doing that.
3. Is there some serious wrongdoing or relational injury? Let's address that, probably not in public and certainly not for show.

Re: Physical fitness.
I'm 61 and have been biking regularly and religiously (so to speak) for the past couple years including bike commuting to work when school is in session. It is now something of an addiction and I don't feel like my day is complete unless I've put a couple hours on the bike. My regular daily fitness ride during the summers is a hilly 30 mile route that takes me 3 hours. Luckily I live in a city with decent bike infrastructure and bike routes although it could be much better.
During that time I've also lost 45 lbs. and all my vitals from blood sugars to cholesterol to blood pressure and resting heart rate are all massively improved. I also sleep better and no longer suffer from acid reflux waking me up in the middle of the night.
I don't have any particular advice except to find some physical activity that you like and stick with it. It doesn't really matter what it is as long as you enjoy it. If you don't you won't stick with it long-term.

STAIRS
i notice immediate improvement (esp in blood sugar, weight loss, too) when visiting PNW family with house with unavoidable stairs.
i’ve read a flight of stairs is about 12 steps. Their house has 5 flights, it’s not large, nothing is done without stairs.
mind you, i’m not quick on stairs!
i get the job done.
add to that, the general hilly terrain everywhere around them.
i leave my visits better than i arrived.
i was blessed to be able+pain free most of my life. adjusting isn’t pleasant. i scold myself for grumbling.
back on the prairie.
i’ve found the nearby library has great stairs! 28 up, 28 down. i did 4 sets yesterday. very pleasant.
plus, all those books at hand.
also, my health clinic and the county tax office each have 2 sets of public stairs.
problem being those places are all 20+miles away, my poor old car. old reliable is hanging in there for me.
i’m searching for stairs. there might be a place about 10 miles away. i hope to visit this week.
i go to all these places. not everyday or even every week.
the library steps are extra-nice. concrete but open+airy. i’d like to live next door.
Library stairs
We once had a contractor friend who specialized in building staircases.
Very interesting as a field of its own.
i have new found appreciation.

Ascending the stairs is of greater physical benefit than descending. A stair like this would mix fitness with fun:
