Ya got a point there. I suppose that actually happens to more people who haven't gone to college than to people who have.Ken wrote: ↑Sat Jul 19, 2025 6:47 pmTo be fair, everyone who chooses NOT to go to college ALSO goes on to stop working and dies.ken_sylvania wrote: ↑Sat Jul 19, 2025 1:12 pmThat would be frustrating. I can't imagine how the husbands of those women must feel when they have to do everything in the house and garden because their wife refuses to help.Soloist wrote: ↑Fri Jul 18, 2025 8:22 pm As far as it goes, I get just as much anti-male nurse among the conservative Mennonites… a school that only takes women… they frustrated me to no end that they’re willing to let women attend for free when those women then go on to get married generally and stop working.
Then again, the thing about people who take any kind of college level training is they go on to stop working and die.

Jobs are not hard to find in today's gig economy.
Now do wages

What exactly are you saying? Men should go to college and then expect to find jobs as DoorDash drivers?

I'm saying that current unemployment rates are not a good measure of the value of a college education. Wages are a better measure for the 95% or so who are employed. The Bureau of Labor Statistics does collect this information. Should we look it up?
In any event, unemployment rates are probably seeing a temporary uptick right now because of Trump and DOGE laying off so many people.
Also curiously, the gap for women is widening.

As related to this topic as recent pages ..
Not long ago, i noticed reports of WARREN BUFFET and some prominent others, speaking on the importance of “Who you marry is the most important decision you’ll make”. Which i felt was insightful and thoughtful and unexpected from him. (Years ago i read he believes he’s agnostic.)
i don’t believe he speaks of dating or marriage ages, or church rules.

A wife and children are motivations, so much is learned IN THE PROCESS of marriage; i’m sad that, today there seems to be more interest in trying to find a finished product, which, to me, seems - unlikely.
(i think) the marriage contract is meant to cover the many changes life and marriage bring. No one knows the path ahead.
From the day of marriage, the new life begins together, unknown, unchartered.

(In the world) i’d like to see more emphasis on the value and importance of marriage.
In the past, my sense was, good marriages were formed by a form of selflessness, 2 people wanting the best FOR THE OTHER, each wanting to bring everything they had to the marriage. To me, this is healthy. Giving, not taking.
Today, in the world, selflessness and submission are dirty words.
Jesus is the best Teacher for how selflessness and submission, in His terms, are the highest goals.

2024 / Warren Buffett Says The Most Important Decision of Your Life Is Who You Marry – His 'Biggest Mistake' Was Letting His First Wife Leave

Warren Buffett, the legendary investor and billionaire, has some surprising advice for life’s biggest decisions. It’s not about stocks or business strategies – it’s about who you marry.
“Marry the right person,” Buffett says.
“I’m serious about that. It will make more difference in your life. It will change your aspirations, all kinds of things.”
Buffett’s own love story is pretty unconventional. He married his first wife, Susan, in 1952 and stayed married to her for over 50 years, even though they were separated for much of that time. Despite living apart, they remained close, and Buffett was by her side during her battle with cancer, even though he hated hospitals.
In his 2017 HBO documentary "Becoming Warren Buffett," he explained that “two turning points” in his life were “One when I came out of the womb and one when I met Susie." He openly credits his life’s success to her, explaining, “What happened with me would not have happened without her.” He went on to say, "Susie really put me together. She believed in me. She put me together. I would not only have turned out to be the person I turned out to be, but I would not have been as successful in business without that. She made me more of a whole person."
Buffett has often stated that if you want a marriage to last, you should look for someone with low expectations.![]()

“If you want a marriage to last, look for someone with low expectations,” he told Fortune in 2015. It might sound a bit harsh, but Buffett’s point is that realistic expectations can lead to stronger, more enduring relationships.
In a chat with Bill Gates in 2017, Buffett emphasized how important it is to surround yourself with people who have qualities you admire, especially when it comes to your spouse. “You want to associate with people who are the kind of person you’d like to be,” he said. “And the most important person by far in that respect is your spouse.”
After Susan passed away in 2004, Buffett remarried in 2006 to Astrid Menks, a family friend for years. This unconventional arrangement shows Buffett practices what he preaches about finding the right partner, even if it doesn’t fit the traditional mold. .. ..
(i believe) most men like to marry, and usually (blossom) in marriage, often to surprising degrees... Buffett’s insights on marriage go beyond just personal happiness.
He believes choosing the right life partner can significantly influence personal and professional success.
And he’s not alone – studies have shown that having a supportive spouse can increase your chances of success and even boost your salary.
Reflecting on his own life, Warren Buffett has been candid about his personal regrets. In his 2008 self-authorized biography written by Alice Schroeder, he admitted that his biggest mistake was allowing Susan to leave him.
“It was preventable,” Buffett confessed. “It was definitely 95% my fault. ... I just wasn’t attuned enough to her, and she’d always been perfectly attuned to me. She kept me together for a lot of years. ... It shouldn’t have happened.”
Research indicates that married people tend to do better economically. Men, in particular, become more productive after marriage, earning between 10% and 40% more than their single counterparts with similar education and job histories. This increased productivity is attributed to marital social norms that encourage healthy, productive behavior and wealth accumulation.
While Buffett is known for his financial wisdom, his marriage advice might be his most valuable tip. After all, as he puts it, “Being given unconditional love is the greatest benefit you can ever get.”

.. Obviously, they were a perfect match.
Buffett told Forbes that Susan taught him a lot – about investing, and also about opening himself up emotionally to the world.
In the documentary, Buffett says he “got very, very, very lucky,” and describes himself before Susan as “a lopsided person.”
Sweetly, he describes her patience and nurturance of him.
“It took a while, but she just stood there with a little watering can and just nourished me along and changed me.” ..

i’m perfectly comfortable with an older, wiser, more docile Trump.

Are you saying Trump and DOGE are only laying off men, not women?Ken wrote: ↑Sun Jul 20, 2025 12:47 amI'm saying that current unemployment rates are not a good measure of the value of a college education. How interesting. Guys do better financially after marriage, but yet they are told, don't get married until you are financially stable.Research indicates that married people tend to do better economically. Re: Poll: Age for Dating and Marriage
I wonder how much of this is due to the 'trash' dead-end degrees that have been available now for some years. (What I mean is degrees for professions that have few openings. I could be considered an example, except that although there aren't a lot of openings for missiology majors, I went through with it. However, I certainly did experience the lack of qualifications for any available jobs in my area of expertise when we moved to Holmes County when I was just 47. The only two jobs for which I felt I was especially qualified was work for the county in a program for immigrant families, and in doing translation checking for CAM. The county never started that program, and I was probably not 'Plain' enough for CAM, and I may have also been seen as a threat, due to the very thing that qualified me for the job - my long-term experience in Bible translation work. But I DO know first hand how threatened a translator can feel when working with a translation consultant. It can at times feel intensely 'personal'.)
