Yes, you did. It's graduation rates, though, not attendance rates.
Ken wrote: ↑Fri Jul 18, 2025 7:28 pm Don't confuse those two percentages. They are measuring different things.
Attendance rates are hard to discern because there are so many non-traditional college students these days who go back to school later. So simply measuring the number of 18 year old men who go to a traditional college doesn't tell you the real picture.

That is why measuring educational attainment is a better statistic. And it is something the census measures so there is good data. If the percentage of men with college degrees continues to go up over time then that means more men are attending college.

The exact actual data is available on the census website. of course it’s easy to dismiss it if it doesn’t agree with your prerogative.

Besides, we know the graduation data isn’t accurate.

They don’t track the Mrs degree

It could also mean that the same number are attending, but fewer are dropping out.

That could be true too. Either way, there isn't evidence that men are being driven away from college. Just that the number of women attending college continues to increase faster.

Look, I don't think college is the answer for everyone. I don't think there is necessarily any "right" percentage for the number of men and women attending college as long as everyone who wants to attend is able to. I'd like to see more robust job options and quality of life options for people of all educational backgrounds. But we seem to be going in the opposite direction in this country.

In this discussion I'm simply objecting to the conservative meme that colleges are somehow driving men away due to political hostility or anti-male policies of some sort. I'm pretty close to that world and I see zero evidence that such a thing is true. If anything it is very much the opposite. Colleges are bending over backwards to attract more men.

I specifically was speaking about Nursing school and the anti-male is somewhat worse generally in the south… but as you pointed out, it was Oregon where I experienced it.

As far as it goes, I get just as much anti-male nurse among the conservative Mennonites… a school that only takes women… they frustrated me to no end that they’re willing to let women attend for free when those women then go on to get married generally and stop working.

P.12:
.. They found different racial groups, especially black women, face serious shortages of potential marital partners, as do unmarried women with either low or high socioeconomic status. ..
Years ago, i recall reading about this phenom, particularly scarcity of equal or higher levels of formal education, employment, in black men, happening among black women with higher ed. Running the risk of social alienation due to higher education, demanding work schedules.

It struck me as sad at the time.
Now, years later, many see it as common and to be expected, regardless of race.

Although some believe it doesn’t happen, it’s not happening.

(This discussion ignores the OP questions wrt church rules for dating age, marriage age.)

i’m sorry and kinda surprised this happens to you.
i admit surprise when i first encountered a male nurse, but that was long ago, i adjusted quickly. It was a good experience.
i wish i could think of an example of why i like male nurses, there are advantages. i appreciate both. no strong preference.

i’ve occasionally suggested to my son i could see him working in physical rehabilitation, i can imagine he would get a lot of satisfaction out of helping patients strengthen and overcome physical challenges. (i don’t foresee it happening.)

I posted this previously. There was a momentary dip during the pandemic when colleges when to virtual learning (and then hiring for non-college jobs went way up) which caused a drop in college enrollment, especially for men. But they have since recovered and 2025 is rising again and back to pre-pandemic levels.

The percentage of college students who are men (compared to women) has been declining (because more women are attending). HOWEVER,

The percentage of men who attend college relative to those who don't attend has been increasing.

Don't confuse those two percentages. They are measuring different things.

That would be frustrating. I can't imagine how the husbands of those women must feel when they have to do everything in the house and garden because their wife refuses to help.

Then again, the thing about people who take any kind of college level training is they go on to stop working and die.

To be fair, everyone who chooses NOT to go to college ALSO goes on to stop working and dies.
