West of the Cascades daffodils seem to do better than tulips, East side, tulips do better than daffodils. Daffodils like the moisture. Tulips like the cold.
Mice/voles will eat tulip bulbs, but they won’t eat daffodil bulbs.
I am shocked how expensive daffs are compared to tulips! These better be good 8-)

Do you plant your container bulbs in the fall as well? Or transplant them into pots in the spring?
This fall. First time doing this. I am told plant the pots and set them on the back porch with a cover on top to keep the critters from digging them up. Water once a month to imitate normal precipitation.

I have also read that folks but their bulbs in the fall and keep them in the veggie drawer of the fridge over the winter to get them to "reset". Again, I am told they need at least 8 weeks of cold to make them dormant

Good luck, Ken.
Wife wants tulips over daffodils even though we live more in daffodil country west of the Cascades.

So I'll buy a bunch and do both some pots and in ground and see what happens. Our local nursery has basically the same packages of bulbs for roughly the same prices as online outlets like Holland bulbs so I'll just buy some locally and see what happens.

I had gotten some black, white and pink tulips that I plan to put in pots as gifts. I also got a bag of mixed varieties, 50 count, for a good price and those will go in the ground somewhere.

Then I accidently/on purpose got 200 snowdrops and crocuses. A handful will go in pots, the rest will get put in the lawn at an undisclosed location.

I also allowed the hosta bug to bite and have a few of those on the way, plus we have some in the ground now that are not at the best location so I'm gonna swap them out for some tiger lilies that are likewise at a dumb location.

The struggle is real.

My gardening obsessions lead more towards tomatoes and vegetables. But my wife wants tulips. Specifically tulips. She has gotten wise to me telling her every spring: "Sorry honey, this isn't the right time to plant tulips" And so here we are.

I'm already planning for some heirloom tomatoes for this spring. Might actually buy some heat pads and growing lights to start my own from seed, typically the end of February.

I used to do that and did too many varieties and then had too many as I always planted more than I would need and I have a hard time throwing a seedling away. These days I only grow 4 tomato plants so no longer worth doing it. I didn't start mine til March as they got so big - I used heating lights and special heating grow pads. Did it with peppers too.

I do start buying seeds early January. I have fun buying the seeds I do and I still buy cucumbers, cantaloupes, carrots, lettuce, beans and maybe something else.

Most likely I will stick to one variety of tomato. Not sure if I will start from seed or buy from a local reputable greenhouse and save the seed for the following years.

My wife and I were gifted some perennials yesterday from her cousin that lives nearby. Another variety of hosta, lambs ears (heard of before), cat mint, and something called salvia. Spent yesterday afternoon getting it potted or in the ground. Still have to find a home for the hostas. I have a few variety on order, due to ship in the next week or so.

Waiting on a good freeze to kill off my perennials that needs dug up. Back in the spring, I was in a hot hurry for things to grow and bloom. Now I'm ready to dump pots and harvest the bulbs.

I have a few projects for the day. I have a running bamboo variety that I want to contain in a large container. That may or may not happen today, depending how my morning goes.

We need rain more than anything. The farmers are combining all the ear corn and it has been non-stop field fires for the past few days. Wednesday was bad.... the west side of the county struggled to keep after all the corn fodder fires. Getting water was an issue. Tankers were dispatched from far and wide.

We are having the same issue with dryness and possible fires from combines. So far haven't heard of any. All fires banned even those on the beach.
Just picked my last eggplant, will pull that plant soon. Pansies are coming along- love to plant them now and they come out in the spring quickly and last til heat sets in. Getting a witch hazel bush to plant- like that it blooms in the fall and so will add color at a different time of year. My mum is slowly dying but was gorgeous- planted it from pot to ground last year.

I've never done bamboo. Only have seen it growing wild and taking over everything.
