Apparently leaders around the world were upset, advertisers pulling ads, - it was SUPPOSED to upset people, Satan hates the Church and whether The Lasy Supper is "just a painting" or not, they were well aware of what they were conveying
It aligns with the SOP / Standard Operating Procedure of unfettered self-centeredness and Pride in all matters.
If their greatest defense is claiming ignorance, so be it.

Regardless of beginnings, the athletes work very hard to compete, many coming from humble if not harsh backgrounds.
It’s sad these egomaniacs cannot ever control themselves in any situation.

Interesting, even life-changing, how The One True God modeled humility, not pride/Pride.
People are naive if they buy into their story.
Satan is running.

Thinking back to Eric Liddel and Chariots of Fire.
He abstained from an important race because it was to be held on a Sunday- which his conviction was he shouldn't do that on the Lord's Day (he called it the Sabbath) so yes this is a far cry from family oriented ceremony.
Spiritual warfare. Get used to more to come

Parents need to be aware of those leading noisy defense: Jill Biden, most visible, then public school teachers and others that have direct daily contact with students of all ages. Teaching disrespect of Christianity, not mentioning these carnal displays insult universally, not just Christianity, and, as you say, it’s intentional. There is no mistake.

Apologies are owed to the athletes, upstaged by carnality. It’s shameful.

Josh wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2024 12:34 pm So, the Olympics either

(1) Blasphemes the Last Supper
If the tableau at the Paris Olympics was parodying The Last Supper, then what it is parodying isn't the Last Supper of the Bible, but rather a famous Italian artistic depiction. It does not honor God to treat a painting or an object as holy to the point of accusing a parody of that object as "blasphemous." A painting of Christ, even as seared into our collective consciousness as the The Last Supper, is not the Bible, God, or Jesus. It's not even an icon in the Roman Catholic tradition.

To treat an object as sacred to the point that parodying it is blasphemy is idolatry.
C'mon, they KNEW what they were doing.

One of the major purposes of these events is to make money. Isn't intentionally offending advertisers for the sake of offending advertisers defeating the point?

The guy who designed it, Thomas Jolly, claims he didn't intend to mock anyone.

https://deadline.com/2024/07/olympics-o ... 236024601/
“It’s not my inspiration and that should be pretty obvious. There’s Dionysus arriving on a table. Why is he there? First and foremost because he is the god of celebration in Greek mythology and the tableau is called ‘Festivity’,” explained Jolly.

“He is also the god of wine, which is also one of the jewels of France, and the father of Séquana, the goddess of the river Seine,” he continued. “The idea was to depict a big pagan celebration, linked to the gods of Olympus, and thus the Olympics.”
“It is Dionysus who arrives at the table,” Mr. Jolly said in a television interview with the French media outlet BFMTV. Dionysus is the Greek god of festivities and wine, and is the father of Sequana, the goddess of to the Seine river, he said. “The idea was instead to have a grand pagan festival connected to the gods of Olympus, Olympism,” he added.
I think there are two things going on here --

1) I don't think Jolly and the organizers thought through how this was going to be perceived. I don't think they realized that viewers were going to make a connection between the tableau and the The Last Supper. Jolly's tableau had seventeen people (instead of 13) and a giant blue guy, which doesn't appear in DaVinci's painting.

They probably should have thought of that connection. I do think that the tableau was intended to be provocative, even if not intended to directly insult Christians.

2) I also think that a lot of people (including those who claim to uphold the "values" of Western Civilization) don't understand or know the cultural and artistic history of the West. One of the themes in Renaissance art is the depiction of Grecco-Roman deities eating together at a table. It's called "Feast of the Gods.". Renaissance art drew heavily from antiquity and that included not just Christian subjects, but pagan ones as well. I think the line between secular and sacred art is often rather mushy.

Remove DaVinci’s painting.
The display was a tribute to lust+carnality, orgies, an attack on the senses: AS DESIGNED.
Jolly and the committee are determined, deliberate, not ignorant.

Upstaging athletes in this way is in the poorest taste. Regardless of faith.

i’m encouraged so many faith leaders, and others, in the world did not hesitate to speak up.

Don’t overlook: there was a young child seated with the drag queens. Accident?

I think his explanation makes more sense than a major international event intentionally going out of its way to offend millions of people.

Or maybe Jill Biden knows Greek mythology and Western art history and got the references?

What are the origins of the Olympics? What are the Olympics named after?

I'll be convinced once I see an Olympic ceremony with artistic depictions that offend Muslims.

i believe this one did, along with all others, and non-believers, too. As it was intended to do.

This was not a new theme, just taking lust+carnality to another venue.
It’s been going on for years+years, esp followng o bama’s second term as president.
Lighting up the White House was a major insult.
