Oddly enough I think you’re the only one that publicly said you use it.

It seems like you are very fine trying to connect with everybody unless you’re challenged on where you post or what.

I believe things like 'propriety, decency and good manners' can be had without restrictive access to forum threads. This is a forum where 'Mennonites and others connect' as the main screen states. How we are to conduct ourselves can be read in the ' Board Guidelines' thread. I don't see anywhere that we are to isolate anyone from participating in a thread. But if there is, it can be pointed out to me. Either this is an open forum or it is not. I can't 'connect' with others if I am being restricted beyond the rules and calling it keeping order. Thats my view.
Do you find that you enjoy broad success in your attempts to ‘connect’ where you aren’t wanted?

Has nothing to do with only ‘connecting’ with those who agree with them. Has to do with respect, and time and place - of which there are plenty sprinkled around here.

It may seem that way to you but I use it, not to avoid being challenged, but to avoid useless conflict that goes nowhere good. Sometimes, as MaxPC reminds, we should just dust off our feet and move on. Yes, I will say when I am using it so those on it and others will know why I am not responding to that person. You have been on my list before and I don't leave people on it permanently. I occasionally do look at their posts and see if they are still showing any change in conduct. I didn't approve of this feature when I first came on this forum but I changed my mind and see it's benefits.

Several posts have been moved here. Not a problem.

i intended this to go to JayP, for general reference.
i hope he sees it.

MennoNet.com
“Where Mennonites and others connect”

This forum began (MD) as a fun internet experiment of a few CM teens. No lofty goals.
They literally presumed it would not last a year. They were on their family desktop computers, from what i know.

Who knows how they happened to include those prophetic words, “and others” .. the “founders” mostly grew up and moved on, some early ones remain, some check in now+then. “and others” continue to arrive, along with CMs, those two words are the invitation.

Not all would have included those two words. No way! Not all forums have the longevity MD-MN has “enjoyed.” :blah:

“From the mouths of babes” .. :P
The teens did an impressive job with MD, i doubt anyone could have done better. Altho no shortage of volunteers.

As the forum moved along, admin-mods decided it was ok to request broad parameters for certain threads.
Not ok to ask individual members to give them some space. Sometimes “this question is for” .. is an attempt to achieve focus without naming names.

No system is perfect.
For myself, i embrace the subjective nature of the forum, and i do not expect any human to be perfect, not myself or others.
Scriptures say this is pretty much folly.

Turns out, scriptural warnings save a lot of time and heartache. :D

It’s useful to ask a question and then get a response from people with a particular perspective.

Not every thread needs Josh, temporal1, Ken, Sudsy, and Bootstrap bringing their perspective to every possible topic under the sun. (To name a few individuals.)

Thankyou. I wondered where my input to the thread issue went and I disagree with sending input to a bunny trail without private explanation or notification first. I did not offer my input to be combative but rather a personal view. It seems to me RZehr had a more combative response than I did and Soloist decided to join in to take sides. But I think it was keeping on topic when I gave my input.

Anyway perhaps it is a good time to create a thread on Christians being combative and how we can learn to disagree without fighting and putting other believers down. Sometimes I see threads where every phrase is argued against in a combative way. I don't think God approves when we do that and I include myself to find better and nicer ways to share especially when we don't agree.

I posted a response in bunny trails. It was one of those auto sorting messages I guess.

I never challenged your beliefs.
I challenged that when you were asked “how is the weather”, you replied with doctoral dissertation on meteorology.

People here are allowed to respond as they see fit. It is not up to others to dictate how they respond. We each should speak from our perspectives and let others do the same.

One can disagree with a perspective and post their perspective, but we ask each other not to dictate for others.
