To think, this+more was routine for these SINS, where ever found, examples, RCC, Boy Scouts, Hans Mast.
The internet has done more to mitigate these go-to responses than anything-ever in history. imho

Strange how, no matter who-what-when-where, SIN resorts to the same old tactics. Those tactics worked!
SIN is not cured. [Slowed-down - i hope we can think.]

SIN is not of Jesus Christ. It’s outside of what is good, holy, sacred, true.
i believe that’s why it shows up so similarly, where ever it lands.

Back around 2000 when this international Catholic abuse scandal started to get more airing. We would see various high-ranking Catholic bishops going on TV to offer mealy mouthed excuses and justifications. The talking points were more or less that the church's understanding of abuse was evolving and that in the past where they had tried to address the issue from a pastoral perspective they were now coming to understand that it was a crime and needed to be addressed that way.

I remember my Catholic born and raised wife getting absolutely enraged at this example of "moral relativism" on behalf of the church. These conservative Bishops preached loud and hard against "liberal" moral relativism when it came to any other social issue. But when the spotlight was focused on them they were suddenly turning all liberal and saying "well, our understanding of this issue is evolving over time"

Right. Rape of children has been a crime since the book of Genesis. There has never been any moral ambiguity about that anywhere in the Bible. And it would have gotten them stoned according to Leviticus. There is no moral understanding about the rape and abuse of children that needs to evolve over time. And there is never a point in history going all the way back to Genesis when people didn't understand it was an actual crime.

What I do know is the first tall tale Irish Catholic Church scandal about the “Magdalene Laundries” supposedly backed by a government report turned out to be another whopper on a scale with your Catholic Church genocide story in Canada you were trying to sell around here a few months ago. That never happened either.

Or have you finally got some evidence to show for that last one you told? Has anyone turned up any mass graves of abused children outside Catholic Churches and schools in Canada, yet? Yeah, you shared all the news reports about those supposed whoppers, too, but where’s the evidence?

Slow it down a bit, Ken. It takes us a lot more time to investigate your tales than it takes for you to spread them.

Now I think about it. It makes sense all these fake news stories would come out at about the same time as the pederasty scandal, so as to balance out the public perceptions that maybe the liberal/neomarxist takeover of the RCC wasn’t such a good idea after all.

Gotta put out some tall tale whoppers of conservative abuse scandals out there to balance all that out.

I wanted to say “you just couldn’t make this stuff up,” but then that would be wrong.

P. S. I’m not saying there’s nothing to this latest claim of yours, but I haven’t had time to check it. Of course, I don’t say abuses never happen in the Church . . . but these wild conspiracy theories of organized Catholic genocides and gulags are way over the top.

Hoaxes, false claims, lies, harm everyone, most of all, authentic victims.
Perpetrators+enablers LOVE this, and take advantage, especially to dismiss victims, hide themselves.

The internet helps victims find each other, it also helps evil.
The internet has no soul, it’s not inherently good or evil.

As in all matters, moderation, discretion, are essential.

I think many feel as you do regarding the slippery slope possibility.
No, it was not weighted as an indult. So far the Pope has not technically signed it either. Keeping it in the book of optional general blessings for animals, cars and houses, etc. will not allow it to be used for a Sacrament. Sacraments are a part of the Deposit of the Faith and not allowed to be jimmied.

Of course there will be those priests and Ordinaries who will refuse to use this new blessing it all. Then there are those who for twenty or more years pushed the boundaries and conducted their own ceremonies in defiance of the Vatican. Supervision is delegated to the local Ordinary (Bishop). Nevertheless if the local Ordinary is problematic in his fidelity, there are procedures for pursuing his removal.

Thus it has always been since the beginning of the human race: the Faithful and the Rebels. St. Paul addressed this dichotomy on a number of occasions in the New Testament. This dichotomy will be with us until the return of Christ. Can we be worried? Yes. Should we be worried? I would say pray for those in authority that the Faith and the Bible will be upheld.

Here is an explanation at the USCCB Website:
ADDENDUM FOR JM:
The text was not issued in forma specifica, a particular formula in which a curial document is effectively co-signed by the pope, giving it full papal weight. It is not an indult.

Pastoral blessings are different from the liturgical blessings during a Sacrament such as marriage. Pastoral blessings can be changed and even eliminated from the Book of Blessings.

Is it the camel's nose? We shall keep praying and see how God deals with this. God has never been shy about correcting His Church on earth. As Pope Benedict XVI was fond of saying:
The Lord wins in the end.
I would have thought it would have been an Indult due to the intrinsically sinful such relationships are. I pray this turns out well for you,
Thank you; I too, pray that the Lord keeps us faithful to the end of time. There is only one outcome of which any of us can be sure: Jesus Christ, King of Kings and the Lord of Lords will always be the Victor.

What you are calling "fake news" stories are mostly internal church investigations and sweeping investigations by local prosecutors into decades long patterns of abuse.

In Ireland, for example, it was a commission involving several different government agencies along with a staff of investigators and church officials that spent 9 years investigating allegations of abuse across hundreds of churches, schools, and orphanages over a period spanning decades. They produced voluminous reports detailing their findings, institution by institution.

A similar process played out here in the US in various cities and states across the country. So no, it is as far from being "fake news" as you can get.

Baloney. The Canadian Catholic genocide story was FAKE NEWS. You tried to spread that nonsense around here and we’re all still waiting for the evidence of dead bodies buried on Church and School grounds. Where are they, Ken? I guess I won’t be hearing back from you on that one, again.

That was FAKE NEWS.

The Magdalene Laundries story, which I think was associated with all those Red Dress Handmaiden protests?

FAKE NEWS! Prove me wrong,

Now, I haven’t had time to check this latest one, which I already admitted in my last post.

In fact, I didn’t call this one fake news, at least not yet.

I’ll give my assessment of this one when I’m ready, Ken. Be patient.

Never mind, I guess the Handmaidens thing was kind of a separate issue, but there were references to it and the phony Magdalene Laundries story. The Magdalene Laundries scandal was kicked off by a movie, that supposedly showed a sort of post WW II Catholic gulag system of forced labor for prostitutes and homeless girls.

There was a government report on it, which supposedly backed up its claims, but which in fact did not back up those claims.

Go read the original reports and tell us which parts are wrong. The are available and easily found. Better yet, here they are. Go knock yourself out: https://childabusecommission.ie/

Although if it was all fake news then why did Pope Benedict XVI write a pastoral letter of apology for all of the abuse that had been carried out by Catholic clergy in Ireland. And why did Benedict establish his on Vatican panel to conduct their own that included 9 cardinals and archbishops? And how come 82 different priests in Ireland were convicted of abuse?
