Things that are not part of politics happening presently and how we approach or address it as Anabaptists.

A close examination of Gooch during his interrogation.
This is why it isn't always the "Christian" thing to do to not turn people over to law enforcement or press charges.
Mark Gooch got away with many lesser crimes because the "nice" people he victimized wouldn't let the law take its course.
This incident is beyond chilling. As i viewed the YT video, i couldn’t detect anything about Mark G that would have alerted me to .. any of his crimes.

As is described, the most “successful” sociopaths/psychopaths “look” fine. They can be engaging.

Add to that, the intense pain parents have, esp the temptation to deny. Even to enable.
Not all parents give in to it.

(i suspect) parental denial/enabling is presently happening on the world stage, in the U.S. White House.

Emotionally, Mark, Sam, and his dad look dead. His dad's testimony in court is cold-hearted and there's obviously no relationship with his sons. Otherwise, he would be in tears.

And we have discussion elsewhere on MN right now about how to be "nonresistant" or "pacifist", one must ignore crimes and not turn over obvious criminals to the police, because that would be "resisting evil" or promoting police brutality or something. (We can find both left wing and conservative Anabaptists who promote this viewpoint.)

My view is simple. The individual has violated Caesar's law. To Caesar shall he answer.

Acts 23:16-22. And when Paul's sister's son heard of their lying in wait, he went and entered into the castle, and told Paul. Then Paul called one of the centurions unto him, and said, Bring this young man unto the chief captain: for he hath a certain thing to tell him. So he took him, and brought him to the chief captain, and said, Paul the prisoner called me unto him, and prayed me to bring this young man unto thee, who hath something to say unto thee. Then the chief captain took him by the hand, and went with him aside privately, and asked him, What is that thou hast to tell me? And he said, The Jews have agreed to desire thee that thou wouldest bring down Paul to morrow into the council, as though they would enquire somewhat of him more perfectly. But do not thou yield unto them: for there lie in wait for him of them more than forty men, which have bound themselves with an oath, that they will neither eat nor drink till they have killed him: and now are they ready, looking for a promise from thee. So the chief captain then let the young man depart, and charged him, See thou tell no man that thou hast shewed these things to me.

Seems like Paul initiated a report.

And as in past discussions Josh, I would agree with Judas.

Gooch wasn't an obvious criminal. When he robbed his preacher's store, he deleted the evidence by stealing the SD card from the security camera. No evidence. Done deal.

Elmendorf sheltered a fire bug. Lots of stuff went up in smoke until they finally sussed out the suspect. Imagine living communally and the fellow in the adjoining apartment is setting fires, but again there's no concrete evidence who is committing the crime.

These are tough situations, been there, done that.

His attorney argued for a life sentence with the possibility of parole also stated they will appeal.
He will enjoy every benefit of legal due process, something victims do not experience.

Humanity is not good with any of this. Not (good enough) with prevention, not identifying, not responding. Nothing is ok.

There are no winners.
How many lives were (lost) with Sasha’s, including Mark’s? Whether they continue to breathe or not, life is .. compromised.
Two families, and more. They will breathe with sorrow, forever changed.

There is no satisfactory answer.

So horrible. So evil. How could anyone snuff out such a bright light, and not confess to the deed nor show any remorse?

A wee little man can’t say, I’m sorry. A big man owns his mistakes and apologizes.
A wee little man trusts himself and his own discernment. A big man is humble enough to know that he needs the counsel and input of others.

It is hard to fathom that he actually did it. Once he did it, there is a sense in which I am not surprised that he can't bring himself to admit it to himself. It's too hard.

The other really puzzling thing is his brothers behaviors. From the outside looking in something really went sideways in that family system.
