A look back:
I suggest you acquaint yourself with the scientific concepts of tipping points and positive feedback loops.
I am acquainted with both of these. However, I disagree with the predictions that we are "really near" a tipping point or a runaway feedback loop. The main reason I say this is because basically all of the past predictions of this have not come to pass (such as the examples I posted above).
Are their claims true? I have no idea. The earth systems are very complex and I don't think anyone can know precisely when certain tipping points will be reached.
The claims the planet only had 4 years left during Obama's term was obviously not true.
That said, we have also not been inactive in the past decade or two. We have made absolutely tremendous investments and advances in energy efficiency and clean energy. Look at your own state of Ohio and compare energy production between 2009 and 2023. During that time coal as an energy source in Ohio has dropped from nearly 90% to what? about 20% or less?
Yes, Ohio engaged in massive amounts of fracking and oil drilling and now has a large excess of natural gas. They just built some more natural gas plants around here and ran giant power lines right next to my driveway to carry all the new electricity capacity.
The main effect of all this (plus deregulation, the biggest culprit) is that our power bills have gone way up - which is not a good thing at all.
New homes and commercial buildings are being built to more energy efficient standards,
That's not a good thing either. Newer homes can't "breathe" and require constant HVAC instead of being able to just open a window. That also means you are at risk of mold building up. I prefer older homes that are not designed to be airtight.
cars and trucks are more energy efficient and less polluting. Have we done enough? Probably not. But we are definitely on a different trajectory and most definitely doing many things differently than we were in 2009 or 2000 or 1970.
OK. So are you saying total emissions have gone down since 2009 or 2000 or 1970?
