Gender confusion

Things that are not part of politics happening presently and how we approach or address it as Anabaptists.

Often they will selectively release a bit, but there’s been a huge shift in how this is handled since Columbine. They emphasize photos and stories about the victims, and de-emphasize those about the killer(s).
That seems like a decent concept. I do wonder how effective it is.

Burying one's head in the sand doesn't make one "not of this World.", it simply renders one less equipped to navigate the vicissitudes of 'living in the World' as we currently find it.
Yes, I've heard that argument before. However, what I see and what I have been guilty of myself is that this equipping to navigate in this world is not keeping up with all of the current displays of sin going on but rather being equipped with the Gospel that leads people to the solution of all of this plus eternal life. And then taking it to all of these poor souls caught in the snare of Satan. But you are certainly not alone with this argument.

Reading for content is important. i presume you’ve ignored this topic?
In my view, this topic, GaryK’s thread, is about CONFUSION, MENTAL HEALTH, LIES, PROTECTION OF MINORS .. i don’t see anything about sex, per se.

In general, sex and violence have been recognized as “top sellers” in media for decades; following the advent of TV’s “60 Minutes” media learned how to add politics to the top sellers category - but i don’t agree this topic qualifies.

This topic includes discussion of a lot of self-inflicted godless misery. No salacious sex.
Not reading for content, it’s understandable that would go unnoticed.

This seems very inconsistent with a stance against avoiding the world. You seem to object to the separation of sin on clothing standards or anything extra-biblical. How to you rationalize this inconsistency? Virtually any time someone suggests we shouldn’t do something you have spoken up saying it’s going to limit evangelism or isn’t needed if we are led by the Spirit. You don’t see being informed about a shooting or gender issues as related to evangelizing those have been hurt?

:) I don't see this as being inconsistent at all. There are areas that we are to be separate from the world (and we likely have disagreements on what these are) but also areas we are to engage the world and primarily to bring them to salvation. If Jesus is our example of how to live in this world and not be of this world, then where was His focus ? He came to seek and to save the lost and not just talk about how bad the world has become. He did also spend considerable time pointing to the religious leaders on how they really didn't care about the lost but just their own religious ways.

I believe this 'being informed' on worldly events is one of satan's main distractions to keep us from sharing the Gospel, myself included. And 'no' to your last statement. Sinners sin and people are hurt by it all the time. Our focus is to be on Jesus who delivers us from any sin and not the latest manifestation of sin that the media uses to sell it's products. The media has control of many of our minds and I don't see Jesus being spoken of as the solution to the world's mess. Instead Christians want to talk about how governments and other unbeliever sources should 'save the world'.

So, tell me. Do you really believe a born again Christian will have more concern about the ways sin is currently being manifested in our world or will they be more concerned and in more conversation about how we can reach people for Christ ? I am not saying that I am a good example of doing our mission here as believers but it seems quite obvious to my understandings of Christianity that just talking about all the sinful ways of this world and not being engaged in their salvation is not really caring about the unsaved. And I'm open to correction.

Given that I support a Christian school, I think it behooves me to be well-informed on threats to the safety of young children and defenceless teachers (the teachers at this school didn't carry guns, and they don't at my school either). Likewise, it also behooves me to try to understand why a graduate of such a Christian school could end up:

- afflicted with gender confusion
- deciding she is a homosexual
- laying out a plot to murder children, teachers, and her own family members
- attempting to commit "suicide by cop"
- taking steps to buy many firearms

These are not irrelevant things that I can bury my head in the sand about.

Why do some children who are raised in good Christian homes and churches end up in prison ? Imo, and it likely is not heavily shared here :) , there is the whole issue of trusting God to protect children. When satan gets hold of one's life the worst of things can happen. Does this mean a Christian school and/or parents are to blame ? Graduating from a Christian school does not ensure that person has ever been born again.

Again imo, I think the media has way too much negative influence on believer's trust and peace in God. This is what I believe scripture says that is not burying our head in the sand but rather where we should put our thoughts to experience what this text says -

Philippians 4:6-8
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think on these things.…
But that is our choice to trust God and live in that kind of peace or chose not to. I constantly need to remind myself of this as I too often do not put this test to what I think about. If this is 'sticking my head in the sand' to some, then so be it. I just know that when I do what this text says to do, it works.

Pretty much any plain Mennonite, Amish, etc. that ends up in prison or commits a serious crime ends up in the news media and very often gets talked about on MennoNet.

It is worthwhile to ask why young people are frequently attempting to kill each other, and see what we can do to stop that from happening.

You missed the remainder of this sentence -there is the whole issue of trusting God to protect children. . I was referring to the trust issue and not what the media covers. I could have worded this better.

Imo, the answer is still the same for all of this and all sins. They need Jesus living within them in the power and person of the Holy Spirit. Is this not the solution we are called to promote ?
