Yes, I have heard of it happening in plain communities. But if by domestic violence you only mean wife beating, then I think your definition is too narrow. Read the definition on the link below and then re-ask your question. There should be hundreds of responses.
I'd say more often than not the woman is beating the man. It really happens.
Of course it happens. But far too often it is male on female violence.
According to national statistics, 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men experience domestic violence of some sort. https://ncadv.org/STATISTICS
I have no idea how those national statistics translate to the Menno world in terms of either the prevalence or the sex-ratio.
Considering the tendency of men to have macho concepts, I would guess that a higher percentage of women report abuse than do men, but there's no way to know, is there? Any abuse is too much.

In my four plus decades of experience, men would tend to be twice (if not more?) as physically abusive as women. But... women would be twice as emotionally abusive as men.

Which would you say happens first, in any particular relationship? (Assuming that both probably occur in the troubled relationship. Is that a safe assumption?)

When my wife and I were dating, the minister that would eventually marry us often used the praise "love is blind." The potential of physical abuse is hard to see, perhaps the potential for emotional abuse, not so much.
The real test is when life's challenges come along and adds stress to the marriage... that is when either a couple learns to grow together or else the "true colors" rise to the surface. Just my experience.

I would say that the arguments start first in the relationship.
But how men and women fight tends to be different.
