I was thinking that some of the evidence (which isn’t always directly entered into the record) may not have been presented, particularly to keep the identity of victims more private. You have to attend in person to find out some of these details, unless you are a party to the case or can otherwise demonstrate some reason you need to know.Ken wrote: ↑Fri Sep 09, 2022 12:30 pmThe trial transcripts as recorded by the court reporter are a public record. They may not be online. You may have to physically go to the court and request a paper copy. But anyone can get them if you are really interested.

This is when I’d like to compare notes to people who say he was “set up”, as there wasn’t a plea deal involved. If you plea not guilty, why would you be on tape confessing to anything?Signtist wrote: ↑Fri Sep 09, 2022 1:06 pm I only offer what people who were there said.....

OK. It seems perhaps then the person who spoke to BA had incorrect information.Signtist wrote: ↑Fri Sep 09, 2022 1:06 pm I only offer what people who were there said.....

This wouldn’t be the first time an alleged perpetrator tells one group he is set up and absolutely not guilty, and then makes a record confession to another group.mike wrote: ↑Fri Sep 09, 2022 1:11 pmOK. Right; it's also a lot easier to lie to your church, or brother in law, than it is to lie to a law enforcement officer or to the court. Because there are no legal penalties with the former.

Re: Life sentence for Stanley Gerald Champ
In theory, a jury could be convinced a defendant is guilty without hard evidence (including a confession) other than the claims of an accuser. However, it appears this case does include a recorded confession of some kind.

Presumably, many of these 2,551 exonerees were convicted by juries.Wikipedia wrote:The National Registry of Exonerations is a project of the University of Michigan Law School, Michigan State University College of Law and the University of California Irvine Newkirk Center for Science and Society. The Registry was co-founded in 2012 with the Center on Wrongful Convictions at Northwestern University School of Law to provide detailed information about known exonerations in the United States since 1989. As of February 6, 2020, the Registry has 2,551 known exonerations in the United States since 1989.[1] The National Registry does not include more than 1,800 defendants cleared in 15 large-scale police scandals that came to light between 1989 and March 7, 2017, in which officers systematically framed innocent defendants.[2][3]

Every single bit of evidence presented in a trial has to be entered into the record. Because that is part of the record of decision and what gets examined during any and all appeals. Some of it may be sealed if there are minors involved. Which would require a court order for appeals attorneys and such to access. But it is all part of the trial record. The jury can’t make any decisions based on any evidence that isn’t part of the record.Josh wrote: ↑Fri Sep 09, 2022 1:10 pmI was thinking that some of the evidence (which isn’t always directly entered into the record) may not have been presented, particularly to keep the identity of victims more private. Yes. And professional interrogators also often don’t ask questions that they don’t already know the answer to. They will collect all the evidence and testimony from others and then interrogate the suspect and know how to trip them up when they lie.mike wrote: ↑Fri Sep 09, 2022 1:17 pmRight; it's also a lot easier to lie to your church, or brother in law, than it is to lie to a law enforcement officer or to the court.
