Moving on to 3:1-21 next.joey_the_ox wrote: ↑Thu Jun 23, 2022 8:19 pm This is a thread for discussion of the first section given in the schedule I proposed in the Bible Study Proposal thread: background and context.
Here is the full schedule for context:
You may interpret "background and context" as you like and provide whatever material you find useful in the thread. I'm planning on reading through the entire book a few times using different translations during the next two weeks. I'll also try to gather some historical context (such as what the city of Philippi was like at the time) and look at Paul's previous interaction with the city.joey_the_ox wrote: ↑Thu Jun 23, 2022 7:49 pm

I'll plan to start the next thread on Thursday, July 7 (two weeks from today). That doesn't mean that discussion on this thread needs to stop at that time - it can keep going if still productive.

Are you interested in spending more time in chapter 2 first? It seems virtually untouched.Sudsy wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 12:46 pmMoving on to 3:1-21 next.joey_the_ox wrote: ↑Thu Jun 23, 2022 8:19 pm This is a thread for discussion of the first section given in the schedule I proposed in the Bible Study Proposal thread: background and context.

Yes. I just thought perhaps the next set of scriptures might trigger more input from others but I would love to read more thoughts on chapter 2.silentreader wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 12:52 pmAre you interested in spending more time in chapter 2 first? No kidding. The original schedule didn't even envision starting chapter 2 until later this week, and chapter 1 certainly doesn't seem exhausted. But I guess if the participants prefer speedy superficial snippets to a deeper engagement ...silentreader wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 12:52 pmAre you interested in spending more time in chapter 2 first? "Speedy superficial snippets" best suits our attention span it seems? Or our willingness to see ourselves in light of the written word, maybe? I'm not sure...ohio jones wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 1:24 pmNo kidding. My last post should have been elsewhere. I'm gonna blame it on oj. Maybe he'll move it.silentreader wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 1:44 pmI guess in my opinion 2:1-11 is a towering passage of Scripture.Sudsy wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 1:09 pmYes. What do you think of 2:5 in the KJVas compared to in the ESV5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:or in the CSB, for instanceHave this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ JesusAdopt the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus,

Re: Philippians Study 2022: Background and context
OK what am I missing now. I looked back on the OP of this whole study and didn't see any timeframes set out by Joey for these groupings he gave. I obviously missed some schedule somewhere.ohio jones wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 1:24 pmNo kidding. And that is a pretty cheap shot I must say about 'snippets'. If this is how this study is going to go, I'm out.

joey_the_ox wrote: ↑Thu Jun 23, 2022 7:49 pm Sounds good. How does this schedule sound for Philippians?
Each bullet point would be allotted 2 weeks before we move on to the next one. I want to allow a longer time period so that people who are not active as often can participate, and because I think it is better to move more slowly. If we run out of things to say that is fine, we can just wait until the 2 weeks are up and carry on.

Re: Philippians Study 2022: Background and context
Thankyou, I missed reading his 2 week time interval intention and reasoning. My oversight. He hadn't posted since July 12th so I thought he might have lost interest in this so I jumped in to carry it forward. I did not intend to hurry the study but rather to entice more involvement if more sections of the study was made available for comments.ohio jones wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 2:51 pmjoey_the_ox wrote: ↑Thu Jun 23, 2022 7:49 pm Sounds good.
