Re: Bible Study Proposal
Back on topic, I'm really interested in joey_the_ox's viewpoints and proposal for a Bible study, and particularly his perspective as a Catholic convert with a Mennonite background.
If we had an Eastern Orthodox convert/member here, perhaps they could present a viewpoint as well - but as far as I know, folks like LJones and Jim no longer grace this fourm. It would be productive to have an actual Catholic representing the Catholic position.

i appreciated their deeply held views, i enjoy reading their posts as i come across them. i enjoyed your discussions with them, and others, being impressed with your thoughtfulness, experience and study. i look forward to your input in jto’s Bible study. and response to it.
Wayne was disgusted with me when i shared about my grdaughter starting Catholic kindergarten, how this was all-new for me, but, all things considered for her, i thought it was for the best, i was prayerful and hopeful. (it was not my decision.) when i visited, i attended mass (and everything) with her/them. i became grateful for what they were doing. they put her in public school, i believe 3rd grade. that’s been difficult.
i didn’t mind Wayne’s criticism. it was honest. real. i appreciated it. i empathized with it.
Not all families have Waynes or lesters or Joshs, or others.
Nevertheless, we all have to slog along where we are, with what we have.
i’m sure Wayne’s and lester’s families were richly blessed by them. i’m sure life is less without their presence.

Re: Bible Study Proposal
Can't we just get on with studying the Bible as Christians and set aside all other concerns ? What do each of us believe the text says and keep away from pointing to what one group of believers believes over another ? It isn't a competition or shouldn't be. I hope words like 'conservative' and 'liberal' and denominational references can just be put aside for once. Anyway, lets get at er.

Re: Bible Study Proposal
Hey t1,
The devotionals are shorter now(to fit in a SMS text). Here's a newer one on forgiveness:
Forgiveness Friday
Our understanding of forgiveness is delicate. In fact it is so delicate that it has the potential and power to change the course of all history, and it has. So let's be clear; forgiveness isn't acceptance of the wrong done but rather a release of trying to carry a power over another. To forgive isn't to say an offence may continue or happen again but rather that my tendency towards reaction to an event or person will not control my integrity and opportunity for giving mercy and love.
Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do... Luke 23:34
