Try hard not to offend. Try harder not to be offended.
I think I am funnier than I really am.

Re: Poll: Freedom Convoy and Related Protests
According to the polls, 28% of Canadians supported the truckers and 48% were sympathetic even if they did not agree with all of the reasons for the protest and the conduct of the professors. 2/3 of Canadians supported the emergency act and believed it was time to clear out the streets, even if people got hurt in the process.ken_sylvania wrote: ↑Sat Feb 19, 2022 11:30 pm We are supposed to believe that most Canadians oppose this protest and support the police clearing them out.
We are also supposed to believe that the vast majority of Canadian truckers oppose the protest.
Could someone kindly explain, then, why ALL of the heavy towing companies under contract with Ottawa refused to come in and tow trucks, because " the heavy truck industry is such a large part of their livelihoods and they don’t want to damage that part of their businesses."
One would think any towing company willing to work with the city would see their reputation rise among those opposed to the protest....

So for the benefit of the doubt, let's say 33% of Canadians and 40% of truckers supported the freedom convoy. For good measure let's say 50% (or higher) of truckers supported the convoy. If these folks decided to boycott the towing companies who cooperated with police, that could result in 30-60% less business in the future. Plus, employees of the towing company may be scorned for the next 20 years. No business owner is going to be excited about such possibilities. The companies that did towing on Friday and Saturday put placards over their company names to protect their business as much as they could.
In some businesses, your reputation may gain you more business. But in the trucking industry, there are only so many trucks that need towed each year, and it makes sense to me why some would not want to risk their future.

Hopefully, it raises eyebrows. “Don’t mess with those blood-thirsty Canadians!”Ernie:

Also, it seems that up until Trudeau's emergency order, towing companies would have needed to bill the owner of the truck directly. Following the emergency order, some government agency would assure the trucking company would get paid, and the owner of the truck would not necessarily know who did the towing.ken_sylvania wrote: ↑Sat Feb 19, 2022 11:30 pm We are supposed to believe that most Canadians oppose this protest and support the police clearing them out.

On Saturday, a line of tow trucks moved steadily into the downtown core, with identifying markers covered and drivers wearing yellow face masks to hide their identity.

So, again, libs pirating the Public Treasury for partisan politics.
They are so accustomed to it, they feel 100% entitled.
A lot of votes are bought with promises of taxpayer dollars. Generously spending OPM/Other People’s Money.

It's not surprising - I don't think any towing company would want to get mixed up in the middle of this hornet's nest - plus they are hauling away their industry peers. I doubt they want that reputation down the road.Ernie wrote: ↑Sun Feb 20, 2022 8:52 amAlso, it seems that up until Trudeau's emergency order, towing companies would have needed to bill the owner of the truck directly. If you were a tow truck driver, how would you apply Jesus's teachings to go 2 miles? or would this be an active participant with the sword of the government requiring refusal to participate even if it meant your life?

Good question. Business concerns aside, I think I'd lean toward the second option. Personally, I'd be very slow to be involved in any coercive government action.

All of this, and much more.
As Signtist describes in his work, he has customers, family members, church brothers, directly involved in truck driving.
There are so many! i venture to guess, most-everyone has extended family or friends who are truck drivers, or are in related businesses. Everyone who drives, has truck drivers as companions on the roads, in gas stations, restaraunts, etc.
Trudeau could not function without truck drivers. Not for 1 day.
The Canada convoy began as a small thing. It resonates. The pieces are there that an awful lot of people identify with, globally.
Leaders did NOT want their convoy to be “us versus them.” They’ve done remarkably well.
Truck driving is honest work that pays pretty well. It supports LOADS of families. No glamor. No status.
Very culturally mixed. A job young men can begin without a lot of formal ed. Many drivers have college degrees, not required, they opt for pay, and, relative independence, not being confined to an office cubicle, is appealing.
Bottom line for me:
i’m happy to see these necessary and taken for granted men have their day in the public arena.
i see more positives than negatives. many are good role models for others, badly needed.
i’m happy to see folks across the provinces in Canada “come out of isolation” and enjoy each other’s company.
i’m happy to read about Canada in general, not just politics.
i hope folks that vote do so more carefully, better informed, in future.
