Actually it does. The latest research suggests that immunity from prior infection provides about the equivalent of one shot of vaccine. Researchers in the UK found prior infection to only be about 19% effective against Omicron. In other words, you would have to catch Covid 3 times to gain equal immunity to being fully vaccinated and boosted. But hey, I guess you would be well protected against catching Covid for a 4th time: https://www.imperial.ac.uk/news/232698/ ... from-past/
The new report (Report 49) from the Imperial College London COVID-19 response team estimates that the risk of reinfection with the Omicron variant is 5.4 times greater than that of the Delta variant. This implies that the protection against reinfection by Omicron afforded by past infection may be as low as 19%.
I'll take it you didn't actually read that study...
Not reinfection 206321 135860
Reinfection 2626 1501
Data for the reinfection of vaccinated is not compiled in a helpful format, see table 2 and 3.
2.3 Reinfection
Controlling for vaccine status, age, sex, ethnicity, asymptomatic status, region and specimen date,
Omicron was associated with a 5.41 (95% CI: 4.87-6.00) fold higher relative risk of reinfection
compared with Delta. The relative risks were 6.36 (95% CI: 5.23-7.74) and 5.02 (95% CI: 4.47-5.67)
when estimated separately for unvaccinated and vaccinated cases, respectively.
We find strong evidence of immune evasion, both from natural infection, where the risk of reinfection
is 5.41 (95% CI: 4.87-6.00) fold higher for Omicron than for Delta, and from vaccine-induced
protection. Our VE estimates largely agree with those from UKHSA’s TNCC study (11) and predictions
from predicting VE from neutralising antibody titres (4,14), suggesting very limited remaining
protection against symptomatic infection afforded by two doses of AZ, low protection afforded by two
doses of Pfizer, but moderate to high (55-80%) protection in people boosted with an mRNA vaccine.
Our estimate of the hazard ratio for reinfection relative to Delta also supports previous analysis of
reinfection risk in South Africa (15). Prior to Omicron, the SIREN cohort study of UK healthcare workers
estimated that SARS-CoV-2 infection gave 85% protection against reinfection over 6 months (16), or a
relative risk of infection of 0.15 compared with those with no prior infection. Our hazard ratio estimate
would suggest the relative risk of reinfection has risen to 0.81 [95%CI: 0.73-1.00] (i.e. remaining
protection of 19% [95%CI: 0-27%]) against Omicron.

https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/70/wr/ ... tm#T1_down
Unvaccinated with previous SARS-CoV-2 infection///////// Fully vaccinated§ without previous documented infection
All hospitalizations with COVID-19–like illness 1,020 (100) //////// 6,328 (100) NA

SARS-CoV-2 test result associated with COVID-19–like illness hospitalization
Positive 89 (9) //////////// 324 (5) 0.14
Negative 931 (91) //////////// 6,004 (95)
When you can't have both pools equal for comparison like out of Israel, should ask some questions. Why can't they find more then 1000 prior covid with a possible covid? but they can find 6k possible covid from vaccinated?

I thought fruitcake would be an upgrade to some other adjectives you’ve bestowed upon me. Was really going to seize the opportunity.

Its not my fault you didn't want to use the automated system. As a side note, the phone system is down for maintenance. It uses the same sysyem our Veterans Affairs office uses.

i first encountered “hours on hold” via the obamacare sign up debacle. https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/ ... ca/397784/
it was shocking at the time, recalling prior HUGE expense of formerly standard long-distance telephone calls, AND, with cellphones, battery life. i learned to be on hold - only when plugged in to a wall power source, AND, to have some other task at hand so as not to completely waste the time.

long wait times always made me fear, once the call was answered, i might not remember what i was calling about! (so far, so good.)
AND/OR, being cut off, OR, hung up on, once the call was answered.

sometimes those answering do not have fluent English, or adequate training, to respond: they hang up. i don’t blame them, really.
it leaves you to start the process over. :(

the obamacare signup process was required by gov mandate, and a nightmare of unpreparedness.
at great taxpayer expense.

since, i’ve had a few “long hold times,” for different reasons. none as bad as the obamacare launch.
i try to have some task i can fiddle with while on lengthy hold. and, of course, have an immediate power source.

Somebody wrote: ↑Sat Feb 12, 2022 9:07 am Are they showing higher rate of infection in unvaccinated because those are tested for the virus, and the vaccinated are not tested?
I'm assuming this is a comparison of PCR test-confirmed cases regardless of vaccination status. The stats worldwide have been very consistent in showing starkly lower COVID infection rates for the vaccinated, and even lower hospitalization and death rates for the vaccinated compared to the unvaccinated.
In Ontario the actual rates were considerably higher for vaccinated people getting infected than unvaccinated between Dec. 24th/2020 and Jan. 27th/2121. This was probably largely a consequence of the province opening some venues to vaccinated people only.

When they realized this was a mistake and closed them again, the rates for vaccinated people began dropping.
They are now lower than the unvaccinated but there is not a big difference.

It is difficult to say what the change in testing policy has actually done.

 Pre-Omicron, what you said about infection rates would have held true.

Vaccines are a benefit in relation to hospitalizations and have also been in relation to deaths.
But there has been a concerning trend in the last month with the increasing death rate among older fully vaccinated people. :-|

We who abide by all the rules would at least like to trust, “no harm done.” :-|
