Sudsy wrote: ↑Tue Feb 08, 2022 10:34 am Canada is a wonderful place to live temporarily. Perhaps the best in this world. I am so thankful to be born here in this great country. To complain about anything about this country and it's leadership is something quite serious to think about. We have it sooo good here ! Don't let unbelievers cause us to think the way they do.
I feel exactly the same way about living in my country, and I especially agree with your last statement.
When the country you live in is dependent on “the peoples’ voices” for guidance, direction, etc., i’m not sure complete restraint/ignoring follows scriptural intent. It’s not clear.

Scriptures refer to empires and authoritarian governments. Relevant for the times.
Scriptures also refer to many earthly responsibilities, they are temporal! But we are all taxed with living on earth, until eternity.

For me, scriptural models like Boaz and Hosea are helpful. No word about voting or speaking to governments.
But they had responsible earthly jobs, they did them well, managing to keep God at center. They did not live in democratic republics, where their voices were requested. Neither did NT men.

For me, a grey area. i believe people must do as they feel called.
there are lots of Christians who feel called to act in ways i cannot understand, could not follow! (mega-churches are one example.)
many do not vote. for many reasons, most not religious. i respect their choices. i’m a sporadic voter, at best. i’m not convinced women voting is a positive.

But Jesus tells us in clear words, He will judge. we are not to cross Him on this.

In a democratic republic, i liken (requested) opinions to fixing a roof. It’s earthly maintenance. Servants require direction+oversight.
Democratic republics depend on opinions to function.

i don’t see the ditch of forming organized political blocs for the purpose of controlling gov and accessing the Public Treasury, powerful lobbies, career politicians, as part of what is necessary for functioning democratic republics. these are manipulative distortions.

Tow truck companies aren’t working for the government: https://www.yahoo.com/news/ottawa-offic ... 00306.html

You know, as much as I sympathize with the convoy, I did have a bit of an epiphany today. At what point here does the plugged up city become just the flip side of Seattles/Portlands liberal autonomous zones? At some point if a city is shut down long enough, the two groups might begin to look similar.

If a bunch of 2nd Amendments enthusiasts took over 6 blocks of a major cities downtown area and started making demands.
Oh wait, Malheur Wildlife Refuge wasn’t in the city.

It’s playing out in Canada .. ??

Protests, rallies, marches, have common purpose: to be heard.

The situation in Canada is unique in scope, and lack of destruction/violence - it’s more like March for Life than some others, imho. Peaceful and ignored. The Jan 6 rally, evidently, was the 19th or 20th rally, i heard zip about any of them before D.C., they were peaceful and ignored.

The Canada convoy seems to be a majority rally of many diverse folks. Not partisan politics.

i’m uncertain if there is any destruction in Ottawa  mainstream reports have no credibility.
Unlike Seattle, lib politicians are not aiding truckers, at all. They are attempting to smear to the greatest extent possible.

It’s entirely possible, the convoy may be helping Canada’s economy, and Ottawa, specifically. Consumers. $$$$
 legacy politicians+media will not report fairly.

Seattle and other cities were/are left with billions in damages, not to mention increased violence (everywhere).
i seriously doubt any such lingering problems will result from the convoy. truckers are overall responsible businessmen, not out to harm or destroy. or take. they aren’t going to intentionally harm their trucks/their livelihoods.

i agree, protests, et al., have a common purpose: to be heard.
there is a wide range in how they play out. peaceful rallies, marches, protests, are a separate animal from wanton violence+destruction. peaceful rallies are not anarchy. they are allowed in democratic republics.

you were correct in 2020, legacy politicians+media respond very differently, according to their partisan agenda. at any price.

i don’t believe Canada’s convoy is expressly right wing. The partisans don’t like it, so they “say anything” in attempt to smear.

Maybe they won’t succeed this time.
It appears there are so many truckers, with so many in support, attempts to smear might not work.

This may emerge as a non-partisan effort for THE PEOPLE of Canada, which was the original nonpartisan goal stated by convoy leaders. In spite of lib politicians.

Libs may just have to back off and do their jobs as Public Servants, not partisan hacks.

Use prayer as the main weapon of bringing down strongholds.
I doubt very many of the early Anabaptists just used prayer. Seems like a few of them openly entered churches and preached while the preacher was trying to preach.
And the one most blatant in this action repented of it later.
Ernie, have you ever considered the approach you propose is a lot closer to Zwingli’s than to Blaurock or Grebel’s?

A key difference is violence, disorderliness, and ending up begging the city to bail them out, which is what happened at CHAZ. People got murdered and eventually they wanted the police to come help.

If the trucker convoy decays into chaos and they end up wanting emergency city services, I won’t be very sympathetic. The trucker convoy has so far displayed a level of commitment to disavowing violence and chaos that is commendable. It is very much like how MLK steered the civil rights movement away from violent protests.

One is cleaning, shoveling, and making sure lanes stay open for emergency vehicles. CHAZ closed down lanes, had massive filth, and people were being shot. The truckers are protesting and not claiming ownership. They are ready to leave as soon as the government will come to the table and meet some of their needs. CHAZ just disinterested into chaos.

There are some loose similarities, but also some big differences.

Again, just reporting, not fully supporting what they are doing. I understand what they are doing and really value their desire to be peaceful. Crime is down 90% in Ottawa right now too. That is saying something.
