i believe it was noted in the Tom Brokaw video above, Canada’s entire population is similar to California, most of it is in the south of Canada. Without the social-political problems in California. It helps with perspective regarding Trudeau’s job responsibilities.

i admit, i have at least a small bias against “vain men with HD-TV ready facials+coifs” on camera. i try not to over react. :-|
not just Trudeau. not just Canada. HD-TV has been good for the beauty salon/spa industry.

p.s.
i think i’m reading more Canada news right now than in my entire life combined. my goodness. :blah:

So, what about this ? Is this where Christians should spend their time ?
It does appear that PM Trudeau and the Canadian Parliament are not overly friendly to people of faith.
On the one hand it seems the government thinks restricting freedoms to do as you please is the best choice for people (Covid shots) while on the other hand making sure all Canadians are free from any attempt to change their sexuality (no conversion therapy) is the best choice for people. I consider what they think is best has some good arguments.

Regarding the former the majority do support what is seen by most as the best protection for all, and the latter I would think is also supported by the majority of Canadians, who are not people of faith. Some of the people of faith also believe, regardless of one's sexual desires, God can provide the grace to live with 'this thorn in the flesh'. I believe we all have certain 'thorns in the flesh' struggles that try to draw us into sin but God's grace is always sufficient to overcome these and it may be a lifetime battle. If these are not being battled, that is a different story.

I tend to agree with the approach that don't deny what scripture calls sin yet welcomes those that struggle with certain sins and note that other sins as these listed in Gal 5 - 'enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy' are also ones listed that will not inherit the Kingdom of God. These are listed along with sexual immorality and others yet don't seem to get anywhere near the attention of homosexuality.

I am just thankful that I don't have this struggle with my sexuality, it must be quite a challenge. Mine are more in that list I highlighted and at times, others in this list. One could look at that list and sometimes wonder if any of us will inherit the Kingdom of God. The flesh and the Spirit are often at war with each other and we need the continued grace of God to be overcomers.
If the government passed laws making it illegal for me to help someone overcome envy, strife, and fits of anger, I would consider that a big problem.

Good short answer.
Not to overlook, powerful+monied organized political blocs+cults into exaggerated bullying through the court system+public treasury to ensure everyone, and everyone’s children, align with, live with, support, and embrace your chosen sin. Flags+logos to be flown in gov spaces, including in schools and churches - but, their point is: without limit.

This is another topic.

To clarify, and, i’ve repeated for years - i see this as 2 very separate problems, the first is the individual sinner;
the second is the now huge political bloc, for which i have zero patience.

The statement specifically asked church leaders to “publicly preach a sermon that specifically proclaims the biblical truth that homosexuality and transgenderism are serious sins condemned by the law of God that exclude a sinner from salvation without repentance.”
When they start preaching against Divorce and Remarriage, I'll support the "targeted" preaching.

That being said...
In section 320.‍102 to 320.‍104, conversion therapy means a practice, treatment, or service designed to

(a) change a person’s sexual orientation to heterosexual;
(b) change a person’s gender identity to cisgender;
(c) change a person’s gender expression so that it conforms to the sex assigned to the person at birth;
(d) repress or reduce non-heterosexual attraction or sexual behavior;
(e) repress a person’s non-cisgender gender identity; or
(f) repress or reduce a person’s gender expression that does not conform to the sex assigned to the person at birth.
That is likely the biggest threat to any therapist/pastor willing to help someone who wants to deal with their struggles. The whole idea that conversion therapy is just to change an identity... its apparent that is not enough for the pro-lgbt community.

“And who can forget disgraced Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards, who favored $400 haircuts from a Beverly Hills hair stylist flown to the East Coast for a reported $1,250.”

I also don't support "targeted preaching" to "take a stand" against the government in an 'in your face' rebellious way. To me, there has always been governments who threaten Christianity from the very early days of the Church. Our respond is that when God and the government are at odds, we follow God. And since we believe the scriptures are what God is saying, we follow scripture. Should we be thrown in prison for it, so be it. We are no better than the early church and many lost their lives over what they believed.

Instead of acting in open defiance and stating our intentions to not co-operate, I think the way to go is just keep preaching what the scriptures say and not allow unbelievers to dictate what or when we preach. This takes courage as there are many things that are an offense to worldly thinking and this may just be the early stages of a concentrated effort to halt many bible teachings. I'm surprised any teachings on hell are not challenged as 'fear mongering' and can be harmful to the minds of people.

I realize others have a more warring approach as to how they resist, I just think that a more Anabaptist approach, from my limited knowledge of the history, is to just continue with serving the Lord and 'let the chips fall where they may'. Use prayer as the main weapon of bringing down strongholds.

I doubt very many of the early Anabaptists just used prayer. Seems like a few of them openly entered churches and preached while the preacher was trying to preach.

But isn't it also true that to the early Anabaptists, the secular law makers were 'God's government for sinners'. Anabaptists were to have nothing to do with civil government, must not bear arms, nor swear oaths, or carry out the duties of citizens or take part in government. They were not to obey civil dictates but rather to follow the teachings of Christ. Is that not true ?

Do you think those early Anabaptists would have got involved today in trying to persuade the government to not deny their right to keep the church and the state separate ? Or would they just go about following Christ and basically ignore the state ?
