Plan A - Kingdom A - Living according the law of liberty. Having the law written on people's hearts. Not using coercion or the sword. Calling people from Kingdom B to join Kingdom A.
Plan B - Kingdom B - Taking up the sword, supporting and encouraging those who take up the sword, retributive justice.
I would present to them Plan A and Plan B as I understand it, and tell them that God never wanted there to be a plan B and that it is God's heart that they leave Kingdom B and follow plan A. If they are not willing to follow Plan A, then yes, they should fulfill their role in Kingdom B.
I don't see much difference between this and saying that it would be
better if those using the sword would instead not use the sword - that there is something
wrong with the use of the sword. (Of course you are saying more than this but it seems to include this.)
No, I am not saying that it is
better to not use the sword. Anyone using the sword should stop doing so and follow the example of Jesus while he was here on earth. Like Barnhart said, the sword does not bring about good. Its only purpose is to restrain evil.
Here might be an illustration.
A set of parents has two sons who are in their upper teens. The one honors his parent's wishes, and the other is disobedient and disrespectful.
At some point the parent tells the dishonorable son that he needs to meet certain conditions or find another place to live. North American law does not allow the parents to give older teens physical punishment or stone their son to death even though that is what is commanded in the Old Testament.
So while war and violence are the ultimate weapon against evil, they are not the only weapons. Returning good for evil and prayer are other weapons. Christians are supposed to leave vengeance to God and use prayer and returning good for evil in this life
I urge everyone to become Christian, and I urge all Christians to lay down their swords.

Like I said earlier, I don't know how God decides to deal with those who bear the sword and I'm glad I'm not called to judge.
joey_the_ox wrote: ↑Fri Jan 21, 2022 9:22 pmFinally, are these the only two kingdoms in your picture? If so, are you comfortable making "the sword" the dividing line between those two?
Yes, I understand laying down the sword to be part of "mere Christianity" or "orthodox Christianity". I understand Christians for the first three centuries also believed this.
