When i was young, polio vaccines were very new, measles-mumps-chicken pox+others, vaccines not on the scene.

From my child’s pov, it seemed, “every spring” would bring waves of deadly diseases, most of us would get most of them.
i loved spring! but i “respected” it, some springs i was so sick i feared death (probably in fevers). bad flus were expected every year, often taking 10-14 days or more to recover. Families were bigger, with fathers present, “waves” of illness would go thru households.

Hard on mothers! that could be another topic. our no-nonsense mother was a tender, attentive angel of mercy in illness. whatever was required, 24/7.

My father suspected international mail spread pathogens. (prior to self-sealing/self-adhesive stamps+envelopes.)

i would hear that schoolrooms were pretty empty, with so many out at once. schools not closed.
teachers might allow some grace about school work! that was monumental, not taken for granted.

parents would pick up books+assignments, schoolwork done in bed, if need be. “you must keep up!”

o.the runny noses in classrooms. nothing stopped because people were sick. not just schools. often, there was pressure to be present “no matter what.”

later, teachers began asking each student to bring a box of tissues at the beginning of the year.
later, it was decided, fevers were reason to stay home. sometimes, grudgingly.

Life. An overall strange experience.

If they got tired of the rancor, the squabbling, and the rudeness and decided to live their lives in peace, would you blame them???
No, for sure. Sometimes we have to flee from settings that are more of a spiritual drain on us than a building up. I have taken a few breaks and perhaps the next one will be my final. I really need to find a place where the Holy Spirit is recognized as the crucial need for us to live a God directed life. I don't see where this is shared by many here. At least, not to the point of discussion.
So why don't you initiate such a thread? We can share testimonies of how God has led us, provided for us, and used us by the power of his Holy Spirit.
I thought I did :) This thread called 'Walking in the Spirit' is in the General Theology forum. Very little participation so I tried giving some links to a variety of sermons on this topic by John Piper, Charles Stanley, Randy Smith and Greg Boyd trying to entice folks to join in. When you do a search on this topic in Youtube, there are many sermons to go through to see what all is being preached. I'm trying to go through these when I can.

However, I would be glad to hear personal testimonies on the subject. I don't really want this to get into spats over our understandings and on Jan 5th , my second post, I changed my thread guidelines to allow for challenges to what other's believe if done in a manner reflective of the fruit of the Spirit in the challenge. On Jan 11th post I asked a number of questions for consideration in my attempt to get some ' sharing on how we experience walking in the Spirit.' Todate, no takers in response to these questions.

Would love to read your beliefs and experiences and still hoping others will join in.

Hold left CTRL key down and scroll up on mouse wheel. It will enlarge font and page. Hold it down and roll the mouse wheel down and it will return to a smaller size.

Try hard not to offend. Try harder not to be offended.
I think I am funnier than I really am.

Or for those with cats in the house, CTRL and + or - will do the same thing.
