I know that some of you don't know of people who have passed away from Covid, but I know of young Anabaptists and middle aged who keep passing away. Dylan Gillette just passed away. He had been married less than four months.

I saw that. I didn’t know him personally, but knew him through the Dank meme groups. It’s tragic.

So sorry to hear this news...especially sad for his young widow to have to face this.

Thanks for these!
A little context - according to the Ontario COVID Tracker, 74.3% of Ontario residents are fully vaccinated, which means there are roughly three vaccinated people in Ontario for every one unvaccinated person. Therefore, those 161 breakthrough cases came from a much larger population. Extrapolating quickly from the data, an unvaccinated person, on this particular day in Ontario, was over 4X more likely to test positive for COVID than a vaccinated person. This doesn't consider the likelihood of hospitalization or death from COVID - which, according to the same data, seems to show a much higher disparity between vaccinated and unvaccinated.
The data actually does show the rates as well. The rates are also considerably closer together than they were when they began reporting in this manner.
Not surprised...it seems that vaccine efficacy over time seems to fade some in the face of new variants. I suspect natural immunity does as well.

In the United States, you can see the graphs here - narrowing, but there's still a big difference. Vaccinated people are 6 times less likely to get Covid, 12 times less likely to die from it.

But breakthrough infections depend a lot on age

Here’s some irony about how absurd things can get.

The mayor of the small town I teach in is in the hospital with Covid.

The acting mayor who is stepping in while the mayor is in the hospital, also has Covid, but is quarantined at home. He is serving as acting mayor because he is less sick from Covid than the mayor is.

Small town mayors can usually take a good bit of time off. I doubt there is a mass of work piling up until his return.

I do hope he gets better soon. I do not rival in anyone's illness.

Try hard not to offend. Try harder not to be offended.
I think I am funnier than I really am.

It just contributes to the general sense of craziness right now. At my school, about half the staff right now is out with Covid or good old fashioned flu. I was out sick with 102 degree fever last week.

Looks like CO is the latest COVID hotspot - 90% of hospital beds filled, most ICU units packed to capacity. We'll pray for you folks. We're all weary of this thing.

Thank you. It's exhausting. About a month ago, the local county board of comissioners banned vaccine and masks mandates. I don't know if it holds any legal teeth, but we are seeing the consequences of low vaccination and masking rates. I think pretty much the entire staff and student body right now is exhausted and weary from how Covid is impacting life. I've lost class period instruction time because most of the class was pulled in order to get tested. What a mess.
