Reducing abortions

Ken wrote: ↑Mon Sep 20, 2021 9:50 pm I don't support abortion and nowhere here on this forum have I ever stated I support abortion. Where I disagree with most here is that I don't believe that criminalizing abortion is the best way to go about reducing abortions. It didn't work for drugs and it won't work for abortions. What I actually believe is that giving women options other than abortion is the best way to reduce the number of abortions in this country. My view is actually consistent with the previous positions of both the Southern Baptist Church and the Mennonite Church with respect to abortion before the issue became weaponized by the political right.
Is Ken's perception of what most here believe accurate?

I assume we can agree that reducing the number of abortions is a good thing. What is the best way of doing this?

I'm assuming you are referring to the best way for us to reduce abortions. If so, the best way may not be the same thing as the most effective way.

Yes, best without necessarily considering numerical effectiveness.

By this logic, we should decriminalise all murder.

I'm to busy to engage in a long new thread on abortion. But will reference the previous Mennonite and Baptist positions on abortion from the 1970s that more or less reflect my thinking:

Mennonite Church 1975 Statement on Abortion: https://anabaptistwiki.org/mediawiki/in ... rch,_1975)
Southern Baptist Church 1971 Resolution on Abortion: https://www.sbc.net/resource-library/re ... bortion-2/
Southern Baptist Church 1977 Resolution on Abortion: https://www.sbc.net/resource-library/re ... bortion-4/

The U.S. Supreme Court announced Monday that it will hear oral arguments in a Mississippi challenge to Roe v. Wade, the 1973 landmark ruling that effectively legalized abortion in America, on Dec. 1.

The case, Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, focuses on the 15-week abortion ban in Mississippi and will force the nation's highest court to determine "whether all pre-viability prohibitions on elective abortions are unconstitutional."

It’s never worded this way, but (i think) in the mainstream, the matter is almost entirely about protecting+funding for-profit corporate abortionists.

The only individual mothers who are prosecuted for killing their unborn/newborn, are those who dare do it alone, outside corporate profits. In the U.S., most of the reports (i notice) are of young teens or college students, who somehow hide their pregnancies, give birth alone (and presumably terrified) and kill their child in some manner, by violence or neglect. As well, some fathers are prosecuted for harming or killing their unborn children whether violently or thru deceit (example, secretly adding abortion drugs to drink).

Society and courts can be merciless to these individuals, while protective and rewarding of for-profits, who do the same thing, in these cases, 100% premeditated. Outside these professionals, “premeditated” and “for profit” killing are judged harshly in courts of law. All this is peculiar to ending defenseless human life.

i have not noticed one member on MD or MN who suggested criminalizing mothers in any of these situations.
quite a lot on adoption, education, esp about evangelizing (education of God’s Truth and conversion).

in the world, i notice proposed/new laws specify mothers will not be prosecuted - so, mysteriously, it appears legal language does NOT have to automatically default to pre-RvW legal language. imagine that! such precision!

a lot of fear-mongering is based on these “UNTRUTHS.”
funny how loyal to corporate profits people can be made to be. it’s one of the “wonders of the world.” :-|

The Texas law now lets pro life people have some of that money. And that’s why liberals are so mad.

it’s definitely about corporate profits. without, this topic would be “crickets.” guaranteed!
we deceive ourselves. and we are deceived.

it can be absolutely impossible to admit error. egos are no small factor in this.

1. There is so much new medical science readily available since RvW. This, alone, is basis for courts to revisit.
2. As well, the world now documents beyond doubt, legalizing+funding abortion leads to rampant trivialized abortion for convenience, NOT the loudly promised, “safe, legal, rare.”

i’m speaking about the U.S., not about Canada or other countries. i’ve read, there is international travel to Canada to get abortions, often used for aborting females; and, some countries, like China, India, have female infanticide.

Safe Haven / Preventing women from harming their babies (i think SH began by a doctor in China who illegally saved babies)

This is Australia, SH is in the U.S. and Canada, too. ^^

i chose “Other.”
because i don’t think 1 option, alone, is enough to make the needed change.
some of the options are widely practiced, but, without a broad approach, are not enough.

i suppose, paramount would be widely recognized REASONS WHY fornication is wrong, why abortion/murder is wrong, along with widely recognized constructive options for PREVENTION of unwanted pregnancies, AND, life-affirming options for responding to unwanted pregnancies.

Most of all, to transform “unwanted” into wanted and loved. Which is entirely possible.
Prior to RvW, this transformation of thinking was quite a common phenomena.

ok. maybe 1.
criminalizing mothers may be like “going after a mouse with an elephant gun.”

it protects/ignores corporations, and fathers.
the problem of tax dollars underwriting irresponsible sex lives of males needs a serious look, too.

"Increasing tax incentives for adoption"... for the mother or for who is adopting the baby?

Perhaps we should start a new thread about “reducing murder of civilians by police”. We can start with a statement like this:

“ 3. While we do not legislate morality for society we should work toward making counsel concerning alternatives available to each police who seeks to murder a civilian.”

If we took the same approach to abortion, then people like Ken would be calling to make it legal for cops to shoot anyone they want.
