Covid. There already was a physician shortage in many areas prior to Covid. Now doctors are forced to do a lot of extra Covid-related duties to plug holes in the health care system. And their regular non-Covid related clinical work takes a lot longer due to all the PPE and procedures. So you can’t just crank through as many patients assembly-line fashion as before. Someone comes into the clinic with any sort of respiratory symptoms, everyone has to gear up with the PPE just to see them and all that takes lots more time.nett wrote: ↑Tue Sep 14, 2021 11:50 amWhy would regular doctors be overworked?
Plus, due to all the previous lockdowns, there is a lot of deferred care that clinicians are trying to work their way through. Stuff that has just been put off. So it all compounds to the fact that regular doctors are swamped and it is really hard to get any kind of office visit for anything right now. At least in my neck of the woods. Prior to Covid if I wanted to see my doctor I could go online to the appointment system and see all kinds of open appointment slots a month or two out. Now there is literally nothing. Best you can hope for is a virtual visit perhaps. Unless you show up at an urgent care clinic or the ER.
