Yeah, the kids are definitely testing the new teachers out — not just me, but all of us. I have to pretend that I’m a lot meaner than I really am. I’ve noticed that veteran teachers have a lot of tricks, but that comes with experience.Ken wrote: ↑Tue Aug 17, 2021 9:09 pmI would give you all kinds of new teacher advice, but I'm sure you don't need it. One thing I have observed over the years is that kids quickly adapt to whatever teaching style and standards you wish to enforce. They will act one way in one classroom and differently in another without hardly even realizing it. So expect them to act and behave the way you want on day one and continue expecting it through to day 180 and you'll be just fine.
Most people who have never taught in a classroom have no understanding that teaching is about 75% classroom management and only about 25% what you are actually teaching.
We don't start class here until August 31st so I have two more weeks but our inservice training starts on the 24th. At least they put a lot of the tedious stuff online so I can work through that at home at my own pace.

in another thread, you are persistent that the Taliban will respond to every POTUS the same. no. that’s not real life. on any scale...They will act one way in one classroom and differently in another ..
many do. thus, private schools and home schools... Most people who have never taught in a classroom have no understanding that teaching is about 75% classroom management and only about 25% what you are actually teaching.

Someone changed my name to "Yogert" on the white board this afternoon. So that's how my day is going. Of course that's nothing compared to what I got called in Middle School.

You may want to work on your discipline and order skills in your job as government paid babysitter. Once you lose control of a classroom, it’s hard to get it back (and your school administration won’t have your back).

Josh. We don't denigrate what you do for a living. I'm not sure why you can't show the same courtesy to others.

If you knew what I did for a living, you might denigrate it (and I'm not even sure I would have a leg to stand on for that criticism).
But I have very, very little respect at the moment for public school teachers, most of whom abandoned their posts last year and said they were afraid for their lives - of teaching their students. They then stuffed the responsibility of learning onto parents, or to day-care workers, to babysit parking kids in front of a laptop or iPad with a Zoom call on it all day. That was wrong.
Public-school teachers produce a very bad product: the graduate of the public school system, which in America, isn't even literate. We have one of the lowest literacy rates of the developed world.
Parents are abandoning public schools in droves, because they don't want what public school teachers are doing. It is absolutely shocking that homeschooling could rise from 3% to 18.5%. This isn't because homeschooling is wonderful, but because public school teachers are doing such an atrociously bad job.
Szdfan has made it very clear he holds radical, extreme left-wing progressive views. I think these views are bad, and I think it's bad for public school teachers to hold these views and impart them to children. You cannot separate one's cherished moral views from how one teaches.

It can and should be done.
However, over decades since the 1960’s, the public treasury has been pirated for the purpose of promotion of partisan politics, it’s now so normalized, many are in so deep, they can’t see it for what it is. This partisan end result is “so important” literacy and all else take a back seat. Who cares if you can read? - Vote as directed.
Respect of parents and churches? Well. you know.
This clip below isn’t that great to view. Mama Cass urges voting in the first 90 seconds: VOTER REGISTRATION.
It reflects the VAST turnaround in U.S. culture since (this is 1972).
School teachers used to do the same thing. They taught about the system of gov we have, NOT pushing partisan politics.
School teachers used to lead respect of parents, families, churches - without defining what kind of family or faith.
i went to culturally mixed public schools, from the 1950’s!* - traditional families, one man, one woman, were the norm for all cultures+faiths, including atheists.
School teachers, even those at 16-18 years of age, respected boundaries of their work. It’s eminently possible.
This was formerly valued as responsible and professional. Respecting boundaries.
Example below: Mama Cass urges voting one’s conscience.
Not taking her “moment” to push her view. Either openly or in innuendo. So much is passed in innuendo.
It’s like glimpsing another planet for 90 seconds.
“innuendo” in gov school classrooms:
*yes, indeed.
there were culturally mixed public schools BEFORE 1964. who teaches that??
