Interesting how they can expect a business to run at 25% capacity, yet expect small business owners to continue to pay 100% of taxes. I have not seen anything from the IRS letting me know my taxes are “capacity limited”.

Nor have government bureaucrats who enforce these harsh measures seen their paychecks reduced to 25%. Only the small business owner gets to pay for all this.

I think it's better to look at what states are actually doing instead of just guessing what they will do. Take NY for example.
4. Indoor dining in New York City expanded to 50 percent capacity beginning today, March 19. Previously, New York City and New Jersey restaurants are operating at 35 percent capacity. This decision is made concurrently with neighboring New Jersey also expanding indoor dining to 50 percent. Restaurants outsides of New York City expanded to 75 percent capacity today. Other health guidelines remain in place.

Daily new cases are still dropping, but only slightly, appearing to be leveling off at numbers similar to last October.

New deaths are still dropping nicely. Current numbers are near what they were last November.

For the first time ever since the beginning of the pandemic, the number of active cases have been dropping in a big way. About 8 weeks of decline now.

Despite cases plateauing, I expect deaths to continue to drop due to vaccine targeting. Unfortunately, the world case numbers are back on the rise again (Brazil is a hotspot), and world deaths are even starting to tick up.

1) Social distancing at 6’ remains despite absolutely zero evidence it does any good.

2) Businesses are still choked with capacity limits, but I assure you NJ and NYC aren’t cutting taxes 50%.

It is striking how few plain people are affected by this disease despite taking no precautions whatsoever. In the plain world, the disease barely exists. It’s something you only have to think about when interacting with outsiders, or with the occasional person who likes following worldly trends.

Daily new cases of covid have now not only flattened on the chart, but also ticked up a bit, and are generally at the same levels we saw last October.

Image

Daily new deaths are finally below 1,000 per day. This is the level of new deaths we saw last year during two different periods: the beginning of June and the end of July, and the end of August through the beginning of November. The chart shows the rate still dropping, but with the potential of flattening out similar to the cases.

Image

Millions of vaccinations notwithstanding, we are looking at what is at least a pause in the sharp decrease of daily new cases, if not the beginning of a new wave of the virus.

Worldwide, new covid cases and deaths are both on the upswing. It will be quite interesting in the coming weeks to see whether the US mirrors the rest of the world by experiencing another wave of the virus.

Oh I hope not. One thing the US, the UK, and Israel have going for them are that they are far more advanced with their vaccination rollout (the US is now above 25% of the adult population (and most seniors) with at least one dose - the UK and Israel are even further along than that). That level of vaccination rollout will tend to keep downward pressure on the death rate, even if the case rate goes up due to variants and more societal interaction. But, unfortunately, places like Brazil (with its COVID-denying president) and Poland are definitely going the wrong direction...and are well behind in vaccinating their populations.

Daily deaths have ticked back up over 1,000/day for the last couple of days. This week's numbers will be worth watching.
