Here is the full schedule for context:

  • Background and context
  • 1:1-11
  • 1:12-26
  • 1:27- 2:18
  • 2:19-30
  • 3:1-21
  • 4:1-9
  • 4:10-23
You may interpret "background and context" as you like and provide whatever material you find useful in the thread. I'm planning on reading through the entire book a few times using different translations during the next two weeks. I'll also try to gather some historical context (such as what the city of Philippi was like at the time) and look at Paul's previous interaction with the city.

I'll plan to start the next thread on Thursday, July 7 (two weeks from today). That doesn't mean that discussion on this thread needs to stop at that time - it can keep going if still productive.
Moving on to 3:1-21 next.

Are you interested in spending more time in chapter 2 first? It seems virtually untouched.

Yes. I just thought perhaps the next set of scriptures might trigger more input from others but I would love to read more thoughts on chapter 2.

No kidding. The original schedule didn't even envision starting chapter 2 until later this week, and chapter 1 certainly doesn't seem exhausted. But I guess if the participants prefer speedy superficial snippets to a deeper engagement ...

"Speedy superficial snippets" best suits our attention span it seems? Or our willingness to see ourselves in light of the written word, maybe? I'm not sure...

I guess in my opinion 2:1-11 is a towering passage of Scripture.
What do you think of 2:5 in the KJV
5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
as compared to in the ESV
Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus
or in the CSB, for instance
Adopt the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus,
My last post should have been elsewhere. I'm gonna blame it on oj. Maybe he'll move it.

OK what am I missing now. I looked back on the OP of this whole study and didn't see any timeframes set out by Joey for these groupings he gave. I obviously missed some schedule somewhere.

And that is a pretty cheap shot I must say about 'snippets'. If this is how this study is going to go, I'm out.

Each bullet point would be allotted 2 weeks before we move on to the next one. I want to allow a longer time period so that people who are not active as often can participate, and because I think it is better to move more slowly. If we run out of things to say that is fine, we can just wait until the 2 weeks are up and carry on.

Thankyou, I missed reading his 2 week time interval intention and reasoning. My oversight. He hadn't posted since July 12th so I thought he might have lost interest in this so I jumped in to carry it forward. I did not intend to hurry the study but rather to entice more involvement if more sections of the study was made available for comments.
