Iran publicly 'opening' the Strait of Hormuz seems to be them giving up what little leverage they have. I can't see how this is a win for them, except in the sense that it is better for them to give up now and accede to the demands of the US.

Well, it would be a win for them to have an end to hostilities, continue negotiations, and eventually see an end of sanctions and re-integration with the global economy.

All that's required to do so is to end the nuclear-weapons programme and to stop trying to aim missiles at their neighbours, although down the road, stopping mass executions of protesters might be required to. They could take heart that America, France, Ireland, and many other places often have mass protests that result in no political change at all.

The Strait is closed again.

I think Trump has a tendency to open his mouth and brag about things that aren’t true. This continues to be a volatile situation. I don’t see any evidence that either side is backing down or this war coming to a resolution soon.

One does have to wonder whether the Iranians negotiating with the US actually have control over the armed forces of the country and can effectuate the deals they are ostensibly making.

Somebody said yesterday that Iran has taken its effort to win the war over to X, where its weapons are propaganda and memes.

That said, they still appear to have some pesky gunboats afloat.
