TX FLOODS! 20 kids missing from Christian camp!

Things that are not part of politics happening presently and how we approach or address it as Anabaptists.

I don’t think people should be fired for using their freedom of speech to post mean tweets.

Yeah. Me either. There is plenty of actual law breaking in this country without inventing new stuff to be offended by that isn’t actually illegal and is constitutionally protected.

The word for that is “political correctness”

Wouldn't it better to have let the woman some time off to reflect on what she said and then perhaps she could have issued a statement?

At-will employment refers to an employment arrangement where:
The employer can dismiss an employee for any reason without having to establish "just cause".

The employee can quit at any time.

Exceptions to this rule may exist under state and federal law.

Well yes, there are, in fact, important exceptions. You can’t be dismissed for any illegal or discriminatory reason, such as religion, sex, sexual preference, race, age, and so forth.

And if there is an employment contract in place (as is almost certainly the case with a physician) then the terms of the employment contract would govern, not the law generally.

Does any of that apply here? I have no idea. But there is a severe shortage of pediatricians in this country so she will no doubt have zero problems finding new employment if this firing does stick.

That still doesn’t make it right to fire someone for exercising their free speech outside of their place of employment.

Yes, I'm not talking about the law, but rather what I feel comfortable with.

I like our doctor who also sees our young children. If she said something really rude, insensitive, or unkind, I would be pretty unhappy if she were fired for it. I would prefer we be able to keep seeing her. If what she said embarrassed her employer perhaps a better thing is to issue a statement where she apologizes for whatever offensive thing was said. Doesn't that seem a bit better?

If a pediatrician that we liked for our children were to say what this one did, I would be shocked and re-evaluate the pediatrician’s ethics. Someone who is so callous as to dismiss the tragic deaths of children for whatever reason would no longer be involved in my children’s medical care. I would fire that pediatrician as my children’s doctor and take them to another pediatrician whose ethics put the lives and well-being of children above all else. I also see that option as the prerogative and responsibility of any medical practice that employs that pediatrician. That pediatrician cannot be trusted to put aside politics to serve the best interest of the child.
If the doctor had made racist remarks would that dr still be entrusted to serve children of that race? Of course not! The doctor would be barred from practice, another kind of firing. What this pediatrician said was callously discriminatory against people of a particular economic class who voted for politics she didn’t like. I would not trust her with the medical care of any child if she puts her personal politics and emotions above the child’s socio-economic status.

Social media has served one purpose that’s useful - it often reveals the hearts of individuals within professions that have ethical and moral rules and regulations. If an individual such as a doctor is ruled by emotions and politics instead of professional ethics, it’s going to come out on social media.

The law allows at will dismissal and/or quitting, it’s not a requirement. Most have witnessed if not experienced both, it’s not unusual for great disagreement to follow, in the case of pediatricians, it’s normal for patients to have great attachment, and they might want to follow their doctor to the next practice. Of course employers are QUITE AWARE of the potential unhappiness, and will go to great lengths to prevent these awful scenarios.

i happened to see this doctor’s original (awful) statement she spoke and posted herself speaking (i presume most or all of which was taken down right away). It was beyond the little blip copied+pasted just above, P8. (i don’t have much respect for master googlers.)
i google, recognizing there are biases and limitations. google is not the final word of God.

unions are known for keeping bad apples on the job, evidently, no union involved in this case.
teachers unions are having a bad time right now, leaders stepping down, miserable parents, etc., another topic.

my cardiologist left recently.
he wasn’t able to share his plans, he had a no-compete clause. i don’t like this, but i understand. i wish him well.

she posted right away, some others were doing the same, others lost their jobs, i’m NOT looking it up, it was hard enough to witness once. unrestrained hate aimed at disaster victims, survivors, families, thankully, is unwanted. medical professionals have standards.

from what i saw, i’m confident the employer did not dismiss her lightly. no one here has all the details.
speaking in absolutes is usually a poor choice. one can be absolutely wrong.

^^The truth can be excruciating, as in this case.
To repeat, i’m shaken at the callousness in words+actions reflected in social media - BY THOSE WHO SHOULD KNOW BETTER.
Not “juvenile delinquents”, gang members/wannabes, social misfits, those in poverty, starving, etc.

I think we can agree this is rather mean-spirited; are there Christians out there who are condemning saying things like this?
There’s much worse circulating. Pray for lost souls.
^^When i posted this, this pediatrician’s and others’ real time posts, were what i’d seen.
Even then, i sensed their lost souls were in a worse place than the tragic young victims.

i was unwilling to add examples here. i’ve avoided revisiting.
i’m known on this forum. it’s up to others to decide whether my views are worthwhile or not.
i’m sure not all agree at all times; agree or not, i hope i’m accepted as not intentionally lying or exaggerating.
