First off, I’m very interested in anywhere I can get a “late model” pickup for $20k.
https://www.ford.com/trucks/maverick/2022/ :) You better get your order in soon though.
Get a head start on owning an all-new 2022 Ford Maverick. Fill out the reservation form, then your Ford Dealer will contact you to confirm your reservation. Once confirmed, the order process will begin. There’s no deposit required so reserve yours today and get in on the fun.

Starting at: $19,995*
I suppose that asterisks on the cost should be a couple sizes bigger, but that is what Ford is advertising.
** $1495 destination charge, to start with (I've always wondered if you could avoid that by stopping in at the factory ... probably not.)

More likely the $19,995 model is a super stripped down base model that you can't actually find in the wild on any dealer's lot. And isn't going to be available for special order unless perhaps you are doing fleet sales and buying 100 of them for some organization.

No. I don't have hostility. And no, mass produced clothes are not morally superior.

I have issues with a culture that has one set of applications and standards and expectations for women, but another for those in power. I was raised this way. I don't think it is ideal and maybe not even right.
If you think men and women are identical, then plain/conservative Anabaptism (or, indeed, biblical Christianity) isn’t a good fit for you.

Men and women are different and have different roles and expectations.
You missed the point.
JoshBGood, was your point more regarding whatever you view as an unhealthy imbalance in greater expectations/requirements/enforcements of regulations for the women in many Plain groups significantly more than upon the men in the same groups?

Of course if you want a diesel heavy duty model that is a whole different world of hurt. But very few people actually need those unless they are towing monster trailers.
Or even a gas 2500 class is expensive. You’d need at least a 250 to pull things like trailers to do footers. Most of the guys at church who actually need pickups need something beyond what an older F-150 is capable of. Diesels are even more stratospherically priced.

I expect you are right. I don't usually see those big heavy trailers around here though. At the moment there is a landscapers truck across the street. It's a new F-350 Platinum that probably cost $70,000 and he's pulling an open trailer with nothing more than a couple of mowers, weed-eaters, hand-tools and gas cans in the back. I could probably tow it just fine with my Prius. That is what I mostly see in the suburbs around here. "Work" trucks that are way overkill for the job at at hand.

When I was a kid you used to be able to buy those modest sized Toyota and Datsun trucks before they had special names, and basic Ford Rangers that were more than adequate for most work. My Dad had an old 1970s Datsun pickup that he used for property management and maintenance work and it was just fine. Now you can't even hardly find those sorts of simple basic trucks anymore. At least not in the US. They are still everywhere in Latin America.

If you want to buy a new truck off the lot all you can get are Platinum, Lariat, etc models. The XL or XLT type of models are sold out,

Lead times are pushing 6 months now, I know someone who ordered an f350 XLT in November and still hasn’t taken delivery.

As far as “you don’t need that for a work truck”, some people use new trucks for their work trucks because they don’t want employees driving old trucks that break down. Smaller outfits can handle old trucks better. Everybody I know that uses a truck for business has the same problem.

I’m not sure why you claim the third world is somehow better on this front; good work trucks are really expensive there right now. Old stuff that barely runs has also gone up in price. This is a global problem. U.S. emission laws prevent selling the kind of trucks new that are popular in the third world (and “cash for clunkers” resulted in many of the used ones getting scrapped). I personally wouldn’t want the levels of pollution that are acceptable in, say, Vietnam or China.

I'm not suggesting that the fleets of trucks you see in the third world are better or newer or whatever than what we see here in the US.

I'm just saying there are a lot of smaller economic basic work truck models available overseas that are not sold here in the US for whatever tax or marketing reasons prevent it. For example, in Chile you can get small Nissan trucks called the Navara that are not sold here: https://www.nissan.cl/vehiculos/nuevos/ ... avara.html and you can get small economical Mitsubishi pickups that are not sold here: https://mitsubishi-motors.cl/modelos/l200-4x4/ and you can get Toyota Hilux trucks, which are simpler cheaper foreign-made versions of the Toyota Tacoma: https://toyota.cl/modelos/pickup/hilux/ And you can get small basic work trucks like the Hyundai Porter https://hyundai.cl/modelos/porter-camioneta/

The main reason you can't get these small trucks in the US is the so-called "Chicken Tax" which insulates Ford, GMC, and Ram from overseas competition in the light truck market and makes it completely uneconomical for foreign manufacturers to import light trucks to the US: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicken_tax

That is why your only choices are ridiculously expensive Platinum and Lariat type models if you want a new truck. Government policy made it that way.

So, how does this truck thing work as a Holdeman ? If a Holdeman buys a truck, who decides whether or not this is living a simple lifestyle or not ? And what would happen if that church member kept a truck that was not considered a good Holdeman example ?

Likely the same as it would work for you.

I doubt anything would be done over a truck that wasn't a good example, I think people in the plain communities look at trends more then 1 thing.

So, if I were a member of a Holdeman church and buy a current year truck, perhaps in a red colour and fancy rims, I would not be spoken to or frowned upon ? I am just curious as to who decides when a member has stepped over the line on what is simple living and how this criteria is developed.
