I would like to hear your thoughts on the Yonker's article.
I do not have one yet. When I saw this being circulated, I merely copied it here. I've been suspicious of this release/escape from the moment it made headlines. Too many holes. I wasn't entirely joking when I said this:

Everyone is home and safe, no matter if it involved paying a ransom or special forces 8-)

I assumed you were making a joke based on my ridiculous statement... Generally speaking the movie is less accurate and if you were correct, basically someone, either CAM and the hostages are lying or just CAM. Either way, I'm terribly uncomfortable with someone suggesting that without any proof.
Can't it have simply been a miracle?

I want to hear CAM's response to this piece before I start reading into it too far. Its only fair.

I don't think CAM will bother responding to it.

in this case, i see nothing positive coming from a response from CAM.
one thing is guaranteed: continued speculation+gossip.

the above article is written with the narrative that they, alone, have facts, it insists on it.

i’m not convinced children should not go to Haiti. as a child, no matter what, the one thing i would not want would be to be separated from my mother/parents, if she/they were in danger, all the more. there are other reasons for children to be with their parents, but, my empathy with children wanting to be with their parents is first.

the article oddly states all 17 hostages were U.S. citizens. odd, because every other report (i saw) on this made the point that one hostage was Canadian. i have not read everything. but there have been numbers of sources, including mainstream, Catholic, etc.

if this article is true, or more true than others, the expectation would be for more such high profile, high stakes kidnappings+demands. “business is thriving.”

it’s an odd report, expressing a specific narrative. withholding accountability.

the first-person statements by the hostages seems credible, by folks who value honesty in their faith beliefs.
“consider the source.”

I was able to verify that a ransom was paid to the kidnappers (by an individual or individuals) some days before the second group was released. There was no indication that the kidnappers planned to release any of the hostages after the ransom was paid. Two in the second group were released for medical reasons and it was quite an ordeal to get permission from gang authorities to have a child released at the same time. It was then an additional 10 days until the remaining hostages were able to escape. During those ten days there was again much praying and fasting by the hostages and Christians around the world. Again there was no indication during those ten days that there was any intention of releasing the hostages. All evidence strongly suggests otherwise. This is all that can be said definitively at this time. We don't know exactly what the gang authorities were thinking.
(There are reports that there were significant differences of opinion among the leaders of the gang and that the gang was attempting to use the American hostages as pawns for getting one of their own released from prison. I have not yet been able to verify these reports.)

As different people have noted, the important thing to note is that God rules over the affairs of men, and we can thank Him for the bringing the hostages home safely and that He continues to work on behalf of the Haitian people to bring all people to Himself.

For various reasons, I instinctively look for holes in narratives and statements. When I discover them, I understand that even if facts have been presented, the narrative may have been misrepresented. I may not know the truth or the whole story.

That’s the feeling I get with this whole thing. I think there’s more to the story that we are not being told. There may even be more to the story than some of the hostages understand. Maybe even CAM. One specific thing I’d like to know. Are all the guards involved alive and free? Lots more questions.

But you know what? I’ll probably never know the answers. I don’t care enough to lift my little finger to try to find out. I don’t know if CAM was completely honest or less than honest. But I don’t care. Maybe I should, but I don’t.

That said, the Yonkers article reeks of the by product of a bull eating fresh alfalfa after a winter on hay. Copious, smelly amounts, splattered everywhere.

These events always seem to attract people that latch onto the situation as if they owned it. In the Jewish Mast situation, there were a handful of people who were self-appointed experts, running their mouths copiously on social media.

One person in particular was so obsessive and creepy that he created massive red flags. I wouldn’t trust my young son with him out of my direct, focused sight. And yet, this same guy was obsessed with bashing Jeriah, CAM, etc. Others have a reputation for abusing authority over the Haitians, but quickly latched onto this and loudly bashed Jeriah and CAM. The thing is, all of them have the same underlying “looking down” attitude on Haitians as what led to the situation with Jeriah. (Pay very close attention to the last two sentences. They might ring a bell down the road.)

And then there was a former missionary defending CAM. Uh huh. If people knew why they were former missionaries, no one would want to hear a word they said.

And few talk about WHY things weren’t taken more seriously with Jeriah “back when”. Some of the reasons may never make it into the public eye.

And so on…

All that to say, I long ago emotionally divested myself of CAM (except their Rapid Response teams). But the jockeying and positioning and copious amounts of byproducts related to Jeriah Mast situation and now the hostage situation, by self styled and self appointed experts, highly annoy me.

OK, there’s my rant that was building for months. All I wanted to say is, the Yonkers dude and his source seem to be full of it. Even if some of the details are true.

As with so many, it’s about THEM, not the victims of abuse, not the hostages, about THEM! “Look at me. I’m the star of the show here.” Bleh!!!

PS. Ernie has earned my trust. He values truth over reputation. His bias is strong and that will color his lens, but he strives to move beyond that and to see truth for what it is. That’s all we can ask of a person, and I honor him for this.
