So the whole family got thrown out of the church because the parents divorced?
Yes.
That’s messed up. And very different from how it was handled in my family. The remaining partner is still Amish to this day.
Might it depend on whether the rest of the family supported the divorce?

So even the Amish are subject to cultural relativity and evolving standards then.

Well...yeah...the Amish change...they're in the middle of their own mini-industrial revolution.

But also, since Amish colonies and groups are decentralized, it's also possible that not every Amish church responds to issues the same way.

Eventually her dad and family got tired of bailing out his financial problems since he continued to live in sin, refused to work, and continued to rack up debts. So a legal divorce was permitted.
so the divorce was because of financial reasons that impacted another male member of the family
interesting. divorce is permitted for financial reasons, but not for abuse of the female.
This is not an accurate statement.

They were already separated. There wasn’t otherwise a pressing need for a divorce other than his behaviour interfering with her own finances.

And no, it was not because it “impacted another male member of the family”. It was because it impacted with her.

again, finances was the reason for the divorce.
and i am glad that she had her dad to help her bail out his financial problems. dad's are wonderful people to have around. at least mine was.

Divorce is to be avoided. What is wrong with her and the church trying to avoid a divorce until absolutely necessary?
