Cluster munitions, butterfly grenades…

“When our enemy does it, it’s a war crime.”

“When we do it, it’s fine.”

Is this photo supposed to mean something? That is Zelensky standing behind his wife Olena in the blue dress who is talking to one of the other leader's wives?
Could the rest of the world leaders chip in to buy him a suit?

The RESPONSE to Russia is what inflamed the situation.
It will never be known what would have unfolded if not for immediate military response.
There may have been no shots fired.

i’m not sure the U.S. ever had a quicker response. 9-11? Pearl Harbor?
It almost begs questions of a set up. :-| no one wants to consider the possibility. :-|

Consider the U.S. southern border. Disrespected, invaded over decades .. met with aid.
It’s happening in multiple other countries.

To repeat, Russia was foolish to cross the border with tanks. Would shots have been fired if they’d been met with social services?
This will never be known.

Russia could have sent hoards of unarmed men. Proven effective. Just go+take. Go+say, “take care of me.”
No one will know what to do with you if you go unarmed. Politicians endlessly baffled.

Why? It goes against the image of being one of the people.
Clearly we look at our political leaders in their suits and we see a suit. People look at him and see a leader.

i heartily agree it’s performance theater. representing tens of billions. the tens of billions is what bothers me.
the tens of billions without end in sight, with undetermined accountability. it’s an uneasy place to be.

Right....

That is the mentality of the abusive spouse: "She MADE me beat her and the kids"

"no shots fired?"

Russia has been firing shots and using cluster munitions against civilians in Ukraine since 2014. You have had 9 years to protest the use of cluster munitions in Ukraine. This war did not start in 2022. It started in 2014. Russia simply chose to ESCALATE and EXPAND their ongoing war in 2022.

I remember the protest about them using cluster munitions…

Both Russia and Ukraine need to destroy their massive stockpiles of butterfly mines instead of continuing to USE THEM. Even Belarus agreed to destroy all of their butterfly mines.

These are incredibly dangerous and continue to main children in Afghanistan to this day. Now there are millions all over the warzones in the Ukraine. Ukraine and Russia are the only countries left that didn't destroy their stockpiles.

These mines don't kill - they just maim, so a person ends up with their legs blown off. It is truly horrible. They are very difficult to remove and they can last indefinitely (decades or perhaps even centuries). They are very lightweight and hard to see and that complicates demining efforts.

Overall, war is hell, and there is no way to make it better or prettier, and the U.S. is just as complicit in using horrible weapons that kill, maim, and poison the fields of war for many decades after the war is over.

In Iraq, the Taliban knew that a wounded soldier would be far more costly then a dead soldier.
