this was not Pearl Harbor or 9-11-2001.

Zelensky was so prepared, he immediately “blew the whistle” for massive aid, which was ready+waiting.
Well… when you mass troops on a border, it’s generally thought likely.
There is some evidence that we knew an attack was coming for a location, we may not have known it was Pearl Harbor though.
Yes. In general, enemies are known.

With Ukraine (i’ve read in the meantime) BOTH sides were arming up on the borders over time. They knew. They were prepared.
Even church leaders were preparing their flocks for war. We in the U.S. were blissfully unaware, not so in Ukraine/Russia.

(i’ve read a few reports dated PRIOR to Feb 2022.) they all knew, the officials and laypeople.
if i began seeing military ramping up all around me, i’d hazard a guess things were about to get heated.

Is this photo supposed to mean something? That is Zelensky standing behind his wife Olena in the blue dress who is talking to one of the other leader's wives?

Psaki is not saying that using cluster bombs is a war crime. She is saying that using them AGAINST CIVILIANS is a war crime. This is the actual event they are discussing in the news conference: The Kramatorsk railway station bombing in which Russia used cluster munitions to deliberately target crowds of civilians trying to flee the fighting, killing 63 civilians including 9 children and injuring hundreds more: https://www.hrw.org/video-photos/intera ... kramatorsk

In point of fact, any weapon can be used to commit war crimes including ordinary rifles or just clubs, shovels, etc. Or blowing up dams.

Russia has been using mass quantities of cluster munitions since Day One of the war, and even worse weapons such as thermobaric weapons. And Russia has been using them to deliberately target civilians for the entire course of the war. So hand-wringing about Ukraine receiving them is a little late at this point. Unless you think Ukraine is going to use them to target their own civilians which no one believes will happen, not even Russia.

The bigger issue is that we are still producing cluster munitions and condemning others for using them. We use them and pretend we don’t.

The big issue with cluster munitions isn’t about who is targeted, it’s about colateral damage as 5-10% fail to explode and children tend to be secondary causalities.
Before someone quotes the “official” fail rate of 1% for US cluster munitions, field reports put them as high as 10%.
This is including the supposed safety as well.
This battle ground isn’t somehow in some distant field and Russia is choosing to drop extra bombs on civilians… the battle is right in the cities. Look at where the Ukrainian trenches are…
For consideration, where was the war in Iraq and Afghanistan? There is a reason there are so many pictures of destroyed buildings.

That is not what I heard in the video clip. But it doesn't matter, because this administration and it's spokespersons are so full of lies, hardly anything can be believed.

The thread title is about Russia invading Ukraine. Let's not forget, the president emboldened Putin by lifting sanctions on Russia, including NS2. Ukrainian and Polish allies sternly warned that doing so would enable and embolden Russian aggression. They were right. He gave Putin the green light for a "minor incursion". (Biden’s own words).

Here is the quote from Biden on January 19, 2022...
"I think what you're going to see is that Russia will be held accountable if it invades. And it depends on what it does. It's one thing if it's a minor incursion and then we end up having a fight about what to do and not do."
Here is what Biden said further on January 20, 2022...
"I've been absolutely clear with President Putin. He has no misunderstanding. If any, any, assembled Russian units move across the Ukrainian border, that is an invasion. But -- and it will be met with severe and coordinated economic response that I've discussed in detail with our allies, as well as laid out very clearly for President Putin."

I don't think that anyone in the world, including Russians, would say that what Russia has done is a "minor incursion", regardless of whether a person
takes into account Biden's second comment or not.
