Anyone here have family in Iowa?
I've seen astonishingly little attention to the disaster in Iowa anywhere in the media. I have family near Iowa City and a close friend who lives with his family in Cedar Rapids. Sounds like it was devastating.

Re: Iowa Derecho?
We felt it in central Illinois, it was still a powerful storm when it went through.
President Trump responds:

Never heard the word, derecho, before.
It seems weather people are into increasing dramatic language these days. Most seem to find it tiresome, preferring traditional language for weather.

We live in a valley, so we weren't hit hard, but had our Internet service off for almost two days. Tomato cages and stakes were blown down and we lost some pepper plants that just broke off at ground level.
Nearby Princeton had most of the streets blocked with fallen trees. Our friends had a large tree land on their chicken coop. A town a half-hour away had a gust clocked at about 140 mph; it was only about 70 mph in Princeton.

Wow- glad he is there for them and making sure just under 4 billion of federal funds will help them out!temporal1 wrote:We felt it in central Illinois, it was still a powerful storm when it went through.

I hadn't heard about it by mainstream media- maybe they don't feel Iowa is worthy of attention, who knows!
But God does, and our President did- I'm sorry for their devastation!

It's truly sad to see that kind of loss, something we cannot identify with, & sure don't have the answers. Hopefully what Trump is offering will help a great deal now, but their future looks questionable.Mountain Merle wrote:

Tragic. I have seen snippets in Fox News. A brief mention from Reuters. Samaritan’s Purse relief teams are out there now to help the residents. We are praying for their recovery.
