I'm skeptical that it spread through faithful marriages. The blood supply is a completely different story.

Of course not. It was mostly straight men sleeping around. Especially men who were working in remote locations like mines and farms and factories and such having left their families behind. Which is apparently common in parts of Africa where many or even most men leave their villages to seek work across the country or even in other countries and then prostitution is common.

I was just saying that it wasn't a gay disease in Africa. At it's peak something like 1.5 million Africans were dying including large numbers of women and children. And there was huge spending on abstinence education campaigns with limited effect.

It's just like Covid-19 in that the epidemic would easily be erased if everyone just did their part and behaved.

Should such activity be illegal? If face masks are going to be enforced by the law, then promiscuity and homosexuality should be banned and enforced as well, since those things definitely do lead to deaths including from AIDS.

Fauci spent billions chasing a vaccine, which has never been successful. There is still no vaccine that prevents HIV or AIDS. Instead of doing that, he should have been preparing for another type of pandemic like SARS; what we got was a guy who lied to us and told us not to wear face masks because we didn’t have enough 40¢ face masks to deal with a mild disease.
Sure, the AIDs epidemic could have been eliminated and the virus eradicated from the earth if everyone had just followed Josh's advice on promiscuity.

Likewise, we could lick Covid-19 on a worldwide basis and eradicate the virus from the earth in about 3 weeks if everyone just wore masks and socially distanced as recommended. No need for all this endless economic turmoil and billions spent on vaccine research.
Since masks and social distancing aren’t effective in getting the spread down to R < 1.0, this wouldn’t eradicate it, but a true shelter in place and (enforced) ban on travel would, which is what I advocated for back in March.

New Zealand did this and eradicated it, but then 3 people brought it back who were visiting their home countries, and gained legal entry back into the country since they were naturalised citizens.

Australia is in a similar position.

I’d be a lot more open to masks and other mandatory measures if they were accompanied with a real plan to make something work like an NZ or Australian travel ban. Instead, it appears we’ll be expected to wear masks the rest of our lives.
In practice it isn't so easy.

AIDs wasn't just a gay disease in San Francisco. The most devastating part of the epidemic by far was in Africa where it crashed through the hetero community mostly.
... where it also spread via promiscuity and prostitution.

There is anecdotal evidence that masks help, but no double blind studies. They need to be honest and consistent. If anecdotal evidence is not good for one thing, then it should not be good for others, or it should be equally considered and we should be honest about it so later, if we find that they do or do not work, we do not loose trust in the medical and governmental establishment.

Indiana has now mandated masks too. I am disappointed and disagree, but will respect the law, unless I decide to protest. Once I am a protester, I am safe.

There is a religious service exception as long as we stay 6 feet apart.

BTW, another thing I disagree with is that the Indiana order excludes homeless people. How are they immune?

13 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.

2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.
3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:

4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.

5 Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.

6 For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.
13 Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme;

14 Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well.

15 For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:
We have the same law in Oregon and some Christians are failing to obey God in this one area while simultaneously refusing to greet with a kiss because of the disease.

Yeah. This is wrong.

I wore a mask this morning to church, despite my opinions on the matter. There will be an appropriate time to protest or otherwise petition in the future. Personally I am far more concerned about California banning singing.

Probably because they don't want to have to arrest them and house/feed them in the local jail. What is the point of creating a regulation that you know that you are unable to enforce? What penalty would you deploy in order to force homeless to comply with these regulations? You can't fine them, they don't have any money. Do you really want waste your tax dollars to fill your local jails with homeless? And what good would that do as jails are covid hot spots?

Robert wrote:I went to church without a facemask and regretted it. Whatever cleaner they are using really irritates my throat and makes me have to cough. I could not cough for fear everyone would think I was sick, so I had to shut my mouth and slowly breathe through my noise. Singing was totally out. Maybe if I wore a face mask, I could cough and not make everyone afraid.
I showed this post to my daughter who cannot wear a mask, nor can she take cleaning fluids. She said,
People cough whenever they want at my church and no one cares.

They sanitize days before and wouldn't on the day because it would be bad for me.
Their church never closed its doors to Covid and i recall that not many who attend wear a mask.
