Honk your show support!

Things that are not part of politics happening presently and how we approach or address it as Anabaptists.

What would you honk for?

Kneeling for the anthem is said to be disrespectful, but changing the flag isn’t.
But carry on. Just a thought I have on the blue line flag and polarization.
i don’t have stickers on my car. of any description.
i thought it was determined in the USSC that burning flags and remaining silent during pledges and anthems is protected under free speech, some justices signed with sadness, but felt this had to be.
U.S. flags are burned and desecrated in every way. people make choices.

the NFL kneeling is another can of worms.
to begin, it’s “national.”
if that’s a problem, decline playing and accepting the filthy millions in payment.
fans pay for entertainment, commandeering the premium venue for politics seems wrong.
the Public Treasury is involved:

2016 / Why the federal government should stop spending billions on private sports stadiums

In this way, i do not agree with various flags being flown on gov property, including military property, such as those that represent organized political blocs (i don’t agree with them on or in churches, either). :-|

Gov buildings and property should be restricted to national, state, local government, military flags, POW flags, etc. If flags/logos for political blocs continue to be allowed, why wouldn’t religious flags be allowed? Or Christian crosses, other religious emblems?

i’m not sure why organized political blocs are given such wide berth to “just take” as they see fit from gov, and in the private sector. people should have a LOT of freedom of expression - ON THEIR OWN TIME AND DIME. but, grabbing these big venues should be seen as theft, or some other serious crime. the dollar value involved would be huge. not to mention the free air time grabbed by news reports.

Anyone who has needed to buy advertising knows how expensive it is. $$$

if you want that air time and space, pay for it. don’t steal it and behave like it’s owed you.
if you hate the U.S., don’t join a national team, esp not for personal profit; don’t work for the government.

i see a lot of difference between individuals enjoying freedoms versus organized groups, at will, pirating the Public Treasury. over decades, a lot of people have been offended over many things,
yet respected others’ freedom of expression. moving away from that will not end well.
history proves it, over and over.

another example: obama’s hats/bumper stickers compared with MAGA hats/stickers.
i don’t recall anyone being attacked for sporting obama-stuff. many blame the-people-wearing MAGA hats for being attacked. (even on this forum.) i don’t use any of it. i STILL see obama stuff in my area. nothing MAGA. (people don’t want to be attacked.) - not an exaggeration.

There is U.S. flag protocol, i’m not an expert.
i see “everything” being done to U.S. flags, so, either there are broad exceptions or rules are not enforced, or both. There are differences between gov+military protocol and civilian use.

personally, i have not seen the blue flag on gov or military property.

I can honestly say I never had a bumper stocker on a vehicle. I had fake bullet holes on an old work van already. Years ago, I had a gospel plate and many years of fire/ems plates.

If I did that, I would also put a Black Lives Matter on the back window. I wouldn't want a Blue flag to be misinterpreted as saying that we should not be upset about police brutality or that police should not be held accountable when they are caught doing things like that. I would not want a Black Lives Matter sticker to be misinterpreted as support for the more extreme views of some members of the BLM Foundation. Maybe having both stickers would make it clear that I am not doing either?

At any rate, I have never had a bumper sticker, I've never worn a T-shirt that advertises a cause other than a charity or a church, I haven't been in a protest since the 1970s, and I'm unlikely to change either. And I don't like to honk ...

I think we need to support both black people and police. I don't think there is a contradiction. But police also need to be accountable when they are doing wrong. And politicians should not say things that imply police brutality is OK. Supporting the police does not mean looking away when there is police brutality or when the way a neighborhood is policed just isn't working over decades.

You would show support for a violent marxist organization that wants to burn down the society?

Interesting.

Go move to CHOP. See how much you would support it then. Easy to support for afar when you don't have any "skin" in the game. (Okay, we need to designate or find a sarcasm emoji we all can use.)

I don't even salute or pledge to the flag.

I never really cared about the kneeling. It was the socks he wore that I thought was quite disrespectful.
But carry on. Just a thought I have on the blue line flag and polarization.
I have actually been thinking of something that would be less supportive to the nation that I could use instead.
Something like this. I think it says more of what I would want to say. I would like to see the word "Local" in it though.

Interesting.
Why do you insist on twisting my words, taking them out of context to make them say the opposite of what I said? Why is it so important for you to polarize and make it a fight?

Here's the complete quote again:

I promise that I won't take your words out of context and ask you why you support racist cops killing innocent black men. I would appreciate it if you would return the favor. This kind of inflammatory gimmick adds nothing to reflectively thinking things through as Christians.

Back to the topic - I really want to avoid ANYTHING that says I support black people's concerns without saying that I support the police. And I want to avoid ANYTHING that says I support the police without also saying that I think the George Floyd and Breonna Taylor incidents were horrible and inexcusable. Both sides of this matter.

Because racist cops that kill black men are well less then 1% of the law enforcement of this country. BLM LEADERSHIP is calling for destruction of our society.

There is a matter of degrees here that is important.

Most police do not support what George Floyd's killers or Breanna Taylor's killers did. Most protesters saying black lives matter do not support the more extreme opinions of BLM leadership, they are responding to a long line of horrific events like these that are well documented.

Whatever we do, I think we need to avoid making this "cops versus black people". I'm not going to put any bumper sticker on my car, if I were to do so, I would want to be clear that I support both police and black people.

That was the main point of my post that you quoted from. And quoting the entire paragraph would have made that clear.

Beyond that, I think we also need to avoid making this "cops versus black people" on MN, implying extreme things about each other that are not true. That was my point in responding to you.
