I borrowed Little Britches from my library years ago to read. I started reading it but for whatever reason I never finished it before it was due back. I'm thinking it's a book that my youngest brother would probably enjoy even though he's in his twenties now.Rdm wrote:Yeah, I just started reading the first book to my daughter, and I forgot how much of the first book especially is about the old-fashioned way of doing things.Aurien wrote:I don't think there's anything really girly about reading the books. Yeah they were written by a woman but there's not a whole lot of overly girly stuff in them. Maybe that's because Laura Ingalls was more of a tomboy herself.steve-in-kville wrote:Call me a girly-man, but as a pre-teen, I read those book several times over. I think I had the entire TV show on DVD, but many are in rough shape. That's a lifestyle we'll never see again, although I wish we could sometimes.
On another note, the Little Britches series has some similarities to the Little House series, in that it's an auto-biographical series and has places of explaining how things were done "back then." It's very different in that it follows the adventures of a young boy on his journey to adulthood as he does everything from riding trail as a very young cowboy, to trick-riding in local shows and for cowboy/western movies. It does have a bit of language, but I really enjoyed the glimpse into another life.

Almanzo and Cap Garland went somewhere to get wheat for the town. They made it back just before another blizzard hit, but I think Almanzo still ended up getting frostbite in his feet.Somebody wrote:Isn't that the time where Almanzo and another young man went out over the prairie to buy wheat from some one living out there somewhere? They weren't quite sure where he lived, and wanted to go out & back between blizzards.
