We have lettuce, spinach, kale, chives, horseradish, garlic, chives, & garlic chives doing well outside. Sensitive stuff is inside or in cold frames.

Our peach tree has started blooming!

The rhubarb is growing. Haven't checked on the asparagus yet.

Sunday am brought a pretty hard freeze. Covered some things I could but many trees that had just leafed out were hit hard. Temps are on the rise and we will plant most of the rest of the garden tomorrow, hopefully sweet potato plants arrive tomorrow but if not, will plant when they do.

Cutting spinach and swiss chard and will cut first head of lettuce Sat or Sunday.

Yesterday we planted a few tomato plants plus a couple of other things. The garden is going to be small this year, though I imagine it might increase in the future as I get better at this.

We’re keeping the chickens in the pen right now so they don’t destroy the garden. I’m concerned about one of the doelings who is able to escape her pen might cause havoc as she gets more and more adventurous and wanders to the other side of the house.

On the plus side, we had a major rainstorm last night, the first one in a year. The ground was actually wet this morning.

I think we are now past a major chance of frost so we've been transplanting starts outside in a major way. Lots of peppers, tomatoes, and sweet potatoes are in the ground.

An odd garden experience today. I found a large crayfish walking across the garden. I usually just see them by water, not traversing tilled ground.

Interesting. Can't say I've seen anything like that on tilled ground either.

Farmer behind us finally planted his corn this weekend. On the late side but in time for the rain we are supposed to get and need.

Waiting on our sweet potato plants/slips to arrive. Love watching things germinate and grow. Plus not so hot to go out and weed and care for the garden. Still have melon to plant and 2nd planting of green beans.

Rhododendron is blooming.

We had new potatoes for supper tonight! Also asparagus.

I have 2 big kettles of tea concentrate steeping to can.

A dishpan of rhubarb to cut up and freeze.

We'll have good things for next winter!

Second picking of peas tomorrow.
