Questions for those who believe COVID is political

Post by barnhart »

I have heard several statements that center around the theme that the virus is "political", here on MN and out in the real world. But no one making these claims has been willing so far to answer my questions about this. This is a thread to ASK QUESTIONS about this. Not attack people.

1. Does this mean the virus was created or set in place intentionally to produce a political effect?
2. Does reporting about it, or talking about it make it more dangerous?
3. If this is a "hoax" are the deaths reported real?
4. Why did the President call it a hoax? Was he wrong?
5. Do viral infections inherently favor one political party over another?

I'm not sure if I am one who you remember saying something about this or not. And I haven't gone back to see what I did say. Anyway, here is what I think.

No.
barnhart wrote: 2. Does reporting about it, or talking about it make it more dangerous?
No.

The deaths are real.
barnhart wrote: 4. Why did the President call it a hoax? Was he wrong?
Primarily for political reasons, he didn't anticipate it actually being this bad and wanted to control the narrative. And he is a liar.

They favor whoever is out of power.

I think this thing has been made political beyond belief by the media and the democrats, and has been out right lied about by the defensive right.
I think the medical & health community have acted in good faith and in a sober, honest, frank manner.

First off, lets stick to the facts and not the stuff the main stream media tells you. Trump never said the coronavirus itself was a hoax, that came from the fake media.

On February 28. Trump said at a campaign rally in South Carolina and he compared the Democrat’s criticism of his response to the coronavirus to their efforts to impeach him, saying "this is their new hoax."

The virus is real and it is dangerous and wasn't put into place for political effect. But as usual those who dislike Trump have politicized it as a tool the denigrate him. However, as the threat of the virus increases, there is less and less of that.

This is an example how some (not all) withing the fake news organizations are politicizing the virus.

hmm. i think there’s the possibility “something happened” that unleashed the virus, possibly in similar ways killer bees/Africanized bees are said to have escaped lab conditions in South America.
i question whether it would have been deliberate, there is little or no way to contain/control the damage, so far the greatest damage has been in China. i cannot get that to add up.
underhanded things go on, all the time. horrible things can result. “one little mistake” ..
2. Does reporting about it, or talking about it make it more dangerous?
Reporting, discussion is necessary to provide warnings, compare notes about prevention, treatments, etc.
It’s impossible to make all reports accurate, all discussion worthwhile.
3. If this is a "hoax" are the deaths reported real?
Some reports might be in error. Some might be intentional exaggerations. Cross-checking over time takes care of most of it.
4. Why did the President call it a hoax? Was he wrong?
Politicians can be wrong, they can be mistaken, they can be misinformed. On this, i believe Grace has it, he was accused of saying something that was found to be taken out of context.
5. Do viral infections inherently favor one political party over another?
The response to disaster is what people favor or disfavor.
Politicians realize, disasters happen, regardless of which party is in office. When disaster strikes, politicians can “take a surprising+unexpected break” from partisan antics to address ACUTE DISASTERS.

It’s is not a permanent condition. They will return to wretched partisan politics ASAP.

I am not convinced that this will in the end benefit those most out of power. That is certainly not what is happening here in Canada whether those in power are on the left or the right We presently have Liberals in power federally and conservatives provincially and the main backlash I see is for those either in the media or in opposition regardless of party trying to make it political.

Dr. Wolfgang Wodarg, a pulmonologist, says:
"The corona hype is not based on any extraordinary public health danger. However, it causes considerable damage to our freedom and personal rights through frivolous and unjustified quarantine measures and restrictions. The images in the media are frightening and the traffic in China's cities seems to be regulated by the clinical thermometer.
Evidence-based epidemiological assessment is drowning in the mainstream of fear mongers in labs, media, and ministries."

The reason why Covid-19 is a disaster without precedent is not because of the scale of physical losses. At the time of writing, the global number of fatalities from Covid-19 is just over 10,000. Around 260,000 people have been infected. These are very large numbers. But compared to some flu pandemics, the physical impact so far has been relatively modest. The 1918 flu epidemic was the most destructive global epidemic of modern times, leading to around 40million deaths. In 1968, the so-called Hong Kong flu (H3N2 virus) killed more than one million people. There were around 80,000 deaths in the UK alone.

The president did not call coronavirus itself a hoax. That is a lie promulgated by the mainstream media and truth lovers should not propagate such an a gregarious lie.
