Bercot’s response was great, there were other public responses after Bercot that left me scratching my head. That response was cut off at the end of the recording. I overheard another man privately made remarks that he was going to straighten out the man that shared his testimony. Made me sad that a person would get treated this way.ohio jones wrote:I listened to the recording just now, and the question at 55:35 may be the one you're referring to. Bercot's response doesn't seem to be angry or mocking or inappropriate; was it something said by someone else after the end of the recording? Publicly?flyingnorm wrote:The response by conference leadership was to throw this Old Order Amish brother under the bus for having a poor understanding of the new birth. There were angry comments made about his testimony. I left, almost shaking from what I had witnessed. Anabaptist leaders discounting the new birth and shaming and mocking a man who had been born again.

Huh?flyingnorm wrote:I briefly attended the conference a few years ago. It was a most depressing scene. A speaker was talking about Jehovah’s Witness house calls. The session ended with a time for questions.
An Old Order Amish brother spoke up about how he had been born again a few years ago, around the age of 40. Since his conversion he welcomes JW’s into his home and he opens scripture to them and confidently share Gods truth to them, he turns the tables so to speak. His point was that the leading of the Holy Spirit in Gods Word makes an encounter with JW’s an opportunity instead of frightening.

Is it really an “Anabaptist” identity conference, or has this meeting a gathering of angry leaders venting their frustration at the people who have found Christ in a life changing relationship, and therefore are not easily controlled by those angry leaders? If my experience was a rotten bite on a mostly good apple, I would like to know that.
I was there and I can’t remember this happening the way you described it at all.

I must have misunderstood my experience and the comments made, I am sorry for creating confusion with my post and questions. I wish everyone a blessed time attending this event.Josh wrote:Huh?flyingnorm wrote:I briefly attended the conference a few years ago. It was a most depressing scene. It sounds to me like a difference on perspective. Our experiences tell us 2 (or more) can be witness to the same thing & have completely different perspectives, recollections, & understandings. Whatever you heard seemed to bring back a memory of having much sympathy for the Amish man enough to cause you not to want to go again. Others may have learned towards agreeing with comments you heard. I have heard many criticize ish testimonies before so I tend to not doubt you could have overheard things that upset youflyingnorm wrote:I must have misunderstood my experience and the comments made, I am sorry for creating confusion with my post and questions. Just saw a Facebook post saying the conference is cancelled. Can anyone confirm this? I haven't seen anything official yet.

The Ohio Department of Health is asking us not to have special religious gatherings and events. I assume it will be cancelled.DarkShallNotPrevail wrote:Just saw a Facebook post saying the conference is cancelled. Can anyone confirm this? I haven't seen anything official yet.

Re: Anabaptist Identity Conference 2020 - Mt. Hope, OH
Good morning,
We regret that the Anabaptist Identity Conference has been cancelled due to the ban of large meetings put in place for the state of Ohio per the governor’s request. The conference was going to take place March 19 -21, 2020. Dates for reschedule will be forthcoming. We have no further details at this time.
During this time of men’s hearts failing them for fear, let’s spread peace and goodwill by sharing a word of cheer or through sharing natural flu fighting remedies!
Blessings,
AIC Planning Committee

I think there is a list of exceptions for larger meetings here in Ohio (over 100 people), but perhaps special meetings of this nature would not qualify, especially since it would bring people from many other areas.
