He had a chart showing that outward sins are a manifestation of root problems going back to the Ultimate Root problem of rebelling against the Holy Spirit's conviction. I've heard so many sermons preached (especially to youth) on music, clothing, dating, and sports that it was eye-opening to me to look more closely at the issues and realize that love of the world, sensuality/lust, and idolatry were really the root problems.....which are caused by not submitting to the conviction of the Spirit.
I know a lot of people have been hurt deeply by his curriculum and by his actions, but I struggle with throwing everything out that he taught since I did learn and grow through some of his teachings that were from Scripture.
I never met anyone from the seminars, nor did I follow an application similar to what Bill may have taught or was applied by the group of people representing IBLP or ATI.

I focused on the principles and root things too, with continually comparing those things to scripture. Meanwhile I wondered why these things weren't being applied? For example demanding submission went against his teaching on yielding our rights and serving.

It helped me greatly in getting to know the character of God.

Then I finally found Mennonites existed and heartily accepted most all Anabaptist's teachings right away and I think learning about principle and root things was absolutely pivotal to that.

And also I never got into Denny Kenaston because each time I would try to listen to one of his sermons all my children would start running around screaming like they were possessed, made me wonder that there was something wrong.

In some of his final years he really kind of went off the rails in my estimation, when he started delving into the medical field and giving advice about eating a certain type of diet to get certain defined (by him) results. That really sat wrong with me, when he started trying to mettle with that, without a medical or dietitians license. .
I know a man ( my brother in law's brother), who ultimately died from following Bill Gothard's medical advice. This man had gull stones that could have easily been removed, but since Gothard taught against that, he didn't have it done, and some of the stones moved and affected his pancreas, and eventually it turned into cancer. He was young, and had a large family.

Ms. Izzie wrote:I think it is better to frame our relationships in love and submission, rather than authority and submission. Jesus is our example for this. Although He had authority (He was God), He did not count it as something to be grasped, instead He humbled Himself in love for us. We love Him because He first loved us. He showed us He loves us because He gave His life for us.

My husband has taught me the most about this-- by his example.

Ms. Izzie, truly these words are to die for.

At the risk of raising holy ire, has anyone else seen similarities between Gothardism and the teachings coming from the new SC crowd?
